As we look forward to the 10th Annual Old Dominion One Shot Fundraiser this weekend, we are thankful for our hunters, landowners, guides, and sponsors, and to this unique partnership between the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources (DWR) and The Wildlife Foundation of Virginia (WFV). Collectively, we are working together to promote the hunting heritage through increased access and youth programming. More details at https://vawildlife.org/events/one-shot/

On behalf of the Snell Family, we are sharing Cheyenne's story and information about the Cheyenne Youth Hunting License Fund, which will provide lifetime hunting licences to young hunters. Through this fund, Cheyenne’s passion lives on in every sunrise over a turkey woods and in the heart of every young hunter who carries her spirit into the field.

Cheyenne Renae Snell was a light to everyone she met—resilient, kind, and deeply connected to the wild. Raised in a military family from Texas to the rugged landscapes of Alaska, she developed a profound love for the outdoors. When she moved to Virginia in 2021, she found her true calling in the spring woods, once telling her father, “I love hunting, but I really love turkey hunting the most.”

Even as she fought a courageous battle with cancer, Cheyenne’s spirit never wavered. On her final hunt, she walked to the blind in leg braces, driven by a joyful determination that defined her life. She was a fierce believer in conservation and a proud advocate for "girl power" in the woods, often teasing her dad that girls made better hunters because they knew how to sit still.

💚To honor her legacy, the Snell Family created the Cheyenne Youth Hunting License Fund with the mission to provide lifetime hunting licenses to young hunters at the Old Dominion One Shot Turkey Hunt. Please visit https://vawildlife.org/donate and type "Cheyenne" in the notes. Your donations will ensure young hunters have the same opportunity Cheyenne had to fall in love with the wild.

We extend our deepest thanks to Alan Hennaman for guiding Cheyenne on her cherished hunts, and to David Hennaman for donating the first lifetime license in her name.

💚Thank you for helping us honor her legacy.
