Thank you, Shelly Averett, the Executive Director of Fear2Freedom, a local nonprofit which supports so many sexually abused, homeless, and trafficked people in our region.

As always, Kiwanis Club of Norfolk has been known for decades to provide a forum for educating and fundraising to support our local charities.

Do you know what a Kiwanis Interclub is? That's when one Club visits the meeting of another. This month some members of our Norfolk Club of Kiwanis visited the Kiwanis Club of Town Center in Virginia Beach to support our Club member and local author Tom Claud who was the speaker.

Hope everyone visits our beer pull tent at Harborfest today. Facing the main stage, walk directly to the left to enjoy the best beer at the festival. Don't drink beer? Stop for a friendly "hi" and make a donation! All proceeds support local charities!

Kiwanians...we have a great speaker for this Thursday so find Bill's email and rsvp! Shelly Everett is the Executive Director of Fear2Freedom, a local nonprofit. Shelly joined Fear 2 Freedom in August 2021 in a development role and, after a brief hiatus, returned as CEO in July 2024. Her return marks an exciting chapter in advancing F2F’s mission, guided by her vision, energy, and unwavering commitment to preventing sexual violence and supporting survivors. With a deep dedication to serving survivors of sexual and intimate partner violence, human trafficking, stalking, and homelessness, Shelly combines hands-on experience with strategic leadership to expand F2F’s programs, partnerships, and community impact. As Co-Chair of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Hampton Roads Chapter’s National Philanthropy Day event, she helps strengthen the region’s culture of philanthropy while building relationships that support Fear 2 Freedom’s mission.

A graduate of LEAD Peninsula, Shelly leverages her community connections and collaborative leadership approach to increase awareness, cultivate resources, and build meaningful partnerships that advance Fear 2 Freedom’s work throughout Hampton Roads and beyond. Outside of her work, Shelly enjoys spending time with her husband and their two young sons.

This week's meeting was a great meeting with focus on our community nonprofits and prep for exciting events like Harborfest!

Thank you, Kevin Tremper, the Hampton Roads Coordinator for the Fatherhood Foundation of Virginia, for your presentation, and Chris Beach, CEO, for also joining us! What a great nonprofit assisting fathers in Hampton Roads who are struggling to build or rebuild relationships with their children.

June is a busy month...remember to sign up for our community events and bring volunteers!

June 20 – Harborfest/Sail 250 at Town Point Park
(this event will be HUGE this year and we need all the help we can get). If your adult friends want to help out that can be arranged. Profits and tips from serving beer at this event are quite significant to the club) Email or connect with Chris Hale [email protected].

June 25 – Our annual picnic for the kids and staff at Holiday House in Portsmouth. Always a great time with a great cookout, and a cool petting zoo. Gary S Layne Ed Davis Chris Bryant Lician Johnson Edwards Jennifer Marie Wilkinson
