Last Thursday was a wonderful Kiwanis Club of Norfolk luncheon with 50 attendees. Thank you to all our guests for attending!

It was an honor to have special guest speaker Dr. Wood Selig, Athletic Director of Old Dominion University. Thank you Dr. Selig for getting us up-to-date on the trends in financing athletic programs, sponsorships and more as well as challenges with the balancing act in men’s college football programs with other athletic programs.

Great to see Herb Erb with the Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank, shown here with our Foundation President Pat Kelly, to receive a check for $4,775.

As you know, Norfolk Kiwanis is known for serving many nonprofit organizations in our region. This week out speaker was Anthony Walters, President and CEO of Southside YMCA. Thank you Anthony for getting us up-to-date on the Y's programs!

Next Thursday, April 9th is our Club membership drive, so think of those people you have brought before or who have shown interest in past. Be sure to register as we need to have the count in to the staff.

Last Thursday's Kiwanis meeting was very informative as the Club received an update from the Kiwanis Club of Norfolk Foundation Committee.

Folks, we are doing well due to the hard work of our Club's fundraising initiatives, especially our annual golf tournament. Thank you, Foundation President Pat Kelly, Financial Advisor Robbyn Geyer, and Foundation Treasurer Neil Rose.

This week our guest speaker will be Peter Schmidt President and CEO of Norfolk Botanical Garden! Club President, Chris Bryant, has done an excellent job getting our speakers!

One of our newest members,Lori Walker, is a known business owner and leader in Hampton Roads. She wasted no time reinstating a Kiwanis tradition...the Kiwanis Interclub, where we visit other Kiwanis Clubs in the area.

Last week some of us attended the Interclub for the Kiwanis Club of Churchland. Representing Norfolk were Lori Walker, Susan Long Molnar, Gary Lane, Chris and Ginny Hale, and Ron Alper.

What a warm, inviting Club! We gained new friendships and ideas which might work for our Club.

Our last meeting in February brought us an opportunity to hear Norfolk's Sheriff Joseph “Joe” P. Baron for an update on how the Norfolk Police Department works hard to keep the city safe.

Sheriff Baron has dedicated his life in his profession for more than 40 years of law enforcement experience! Thank you Sheriff Baron for you service!

No meeting today but plan to attend next Thursday when Neil Rose and Pat Kelly will give us an update on our Norfolk Kiwanis Club Foundations!

Last week at Kiwanis, we had an induction of three new members! Welcome...Chris Hogge, Ken Jones, and Parke Martin (left to right with our members). Chris is our youngest and newest member, pictured here with another Kiwanis young professional, Lician Johnson-Edwards.

Thank you, Jean Galiano, Executive Director, Achievement Hampton Roads, our presenter who got us up-to-date about the organization's programs and hopes for more Norfolk schools to have JA on site.

Don't miss another great meeting this Thursday. Be sure to rsvp. Sheriff Joseph “Joe” P. Baron will presenting. He is a native of Norfolk, Virginia and has dedicated his life to keeping Norfolk safe, with more than 40 years of law enforcement experience. After serving 26 years with the Norfolk Police Department, he has dedicated the last 14 years to the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office. He has over 25 years of experience in leadership roles between the two organizations. In November of 2025, he was honored to be re-elected as Norfolk’s Sheriff.

Educating our young people in our communities is a priority for Kiwanis. This Thursday, Damon Jiggetts, President & CEO of Access College Foundation, in Norfolk, Virginia was our presenter. Suzanne Savage, Vice President for Development at ACCESS College Foundation also attended the meeting. Access provides college readiness counseling, application assistance and financial support for Hampton Roads students as they matriculate into and throughout their college experience. Access recently awarded scholarships to over 1000 students, totaling over $1.2million, and is poised to grow in the coming years.

Neil Rose reminded us that Charity Selection applications are due by March 1! The Dr. Allen Clark Charity selection applications must be in by March 1.

We are getting ready to induct three new members! Don't miss the meeting Thursday and get an awesome update on Junior Achievement of Greater Hampton Roads, Inc. from the organization's president, Jean Galliano.

Wow, what a large group we had at the ODU game Wednesday night! Thank you to our Club President Chris Bryant and Jennifer Marie Wilkinson and TCC for hosting us!

Sorry it took me a bit, but at least this will provide some entertainment for you on this crappy weather Sunday!
