Congratulations to our outstanding Girl Scout adults receiving awards today at GSCCC's annual Adult Recognition Ceremony. National Girl Scout Awards include Years of Service, Volunteer of Excellence, Appreciation Pin, Honor Pin, and the highest award, the Thanks Badge which was presented to Luis Estrada, Amanda Howie, Erika Grasse, and Christine Leblanc. GSCCC CEO Tracy Keller and GSCCC Board Member Sharon Jones had the honor of presenting the awards and thanked each awardee for their contributions. The celebration continued after the presentations with refreshments which, of course, included yummy cupcakes with plenty of green frosting! GSCCC Delegates came together today for the Delegate Body Yearly Meeting held at A Place for Girls. Council Board Vice Chair Leonard Brown welcomed delegates, and Board Secretary Amanda Howie did the honor of overseeing the meeting. She thanked Leanord who serves as Vice President of Student Affairs at Norfolk State University for taking time to welcome delegates – it is NSU’s homecoming game and weekend festivities!
The Delegate Meeting began with a report from GSCCC’s National Delegates who attended the National Council Session and Girl Scouts Unite in July. They reported on the national proposals brought forth and on the workshops and activities they took part in that had Movement-wide impact. Council CEO Tracy Keller followed with the annual CEO Report which included highlights from the membership year and how Girl Scouts continue to grow in courage, confidence, and character through experiences and programming offered by Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast! Girl Scout Cadette Emma D. from Troop 553 in Virginia Beach earned the Girl Scout Silver Award for her “Unbridled Confidence Project”, bringing a therapeutic equestrian experience to a group of inner-city kids from Mercy Drops Dream Center in Portsmouth. For most of them, it was their first time meeting a horse. It was such a success that the farm and the nonprofit plan to make it an annual event!
