Meet one of our 2026 Girl Scout Famous Formers, Nicole Livas! She is the Chief Communications and Community Engagement Officer for Virginia Beach Schools. A proud Virginia Beach native and Kempsville grad, she earned her master’s degree in public relations from Norfolk State University in 2026. She spent decades working as a broadcast journalist, receiving many Emmy awards for her journalism. Nicole served as an evening news anchor for WVEC-13News Now and WAVY/FOX43TV in Hampton Roads. Her career has taken her from breaking news, including the September 11th attacks, the Virginia Tech shootings, and the JFK Jr. plane crash, to uplifting feature stories that celebrate community and culture. Voted “Best Female Newscaster” several times by Coastal Virginia Magazine readers, Nicole has also been honored by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters, the Hampton Roads Black Media Professionals, and the National School Public Relations Association of America. Nicole says Girl Scouts is where she built courage and confidence to try new things, starting with the first time she did a sleepaway at Camp Apasus! Join us on September 17 at the Woman’s Club of Portsmouth as we celebrate Nicole and all of our 2026 Famous Formers and enjoy good food and drinks, good music, and friends, all for a good cause!

Congratulations to Girl Scout Madison W. for earning her Gold Award! (She has also previously earned the Girl Scout Bronze and Silver Awards!) Through her project, “Helping the Bees,” she chose to address the issue of declining bee populations by restoring and expanding a pollinator garden at Hickory Elementary School, and educating more than 100 second-grade students about the importance of bees through presentations, hands-on games, and more. And she used some of her Girl Scout Cookie proceeds to fund her project! Way to go, Madison!
