Nebraska farmers are under pressure, from rising costs to unstable markets, and threats to affordable health care. Join Nebraska For Us for a virtual roundtable this upcoming Monday with U.S. Representative Nikki Budzinski (IL-13), Nebraska Farmers Union President John Hansen, and lifelong row-crop farmer Ben Steffen. This will be a meaningful discussion on what’s at stake for Nebraskan farmers.🌾

We’re also proud to support the Farmers Hotline with a $5K regrant to connect farmers to critical resources.

There was no shortage of issues to discuss at this week's Douglas County Farmers Union Meeting, and as attendees toured the farm the cool, rainy weather broke to set up a spectacular evening.

Thanks Benson Bounty for hosting the spring meeting, and Dawaune Lamont Hayes for updating the group on the recent Living Futures Conference. Also thanks to Andrew Tonnies at Hideaway Farms for providing the pastured pork brats and Ben Gotschall Clover Cove Ranch for the Sandhills-raised grassfed bison burger.

State Senator Dunixi Guereca said meatpackers and contract growers are on the front lines as the virus mutates into a pandemic. Guereca wants to make sure those workers and Nebraska's food supply chain are protected.

"LB573 is a comprehensive approach designed to support and protect the most critical workforce in time of crisis. It's about being proactive now to prevent any future disasters,"Guereca told members of the Legislature's Business and Insurance Committee Monday.

LB573 would (also) require disaster mitigation planning to deal with animal disposal and emergency back up processing procedures.

Nebraska could obtain ‘tens of millions’ in additional federal grants via such an office, says Sen. Spivey.

John Hansen, President of the Nebraska Farmers Union, said that farmers are concerned about climate change, and want some guidance about what they can do to mitigate what has become a series of catastrophic floods and wind storms.

A Nebraska lawmaker pitches a "state climate office" to better coordinate the state's response to climate change.
