Hope House Foundation Hope House Foundation provides services to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities The result was Hope House — Virginia's first group home. F.

In 1964, a group of parents in Hampton Roads came together to find an alternative to institutionalizing their adult children with developmental disabilities. By the Eighties, Hope House had 13 group homes throughout Hampton Roads. But by then, we had realized that the people we supported wanted something different. They wanted more privacy. More choice. And more opportunity to be a part of the community — not segregated within a group defined by a shared disability. That's why today, we support adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities exclusively in their own homes or apartments. Our individualized service approach allows us to support people with a range of disabilities, in the way that's best for them. So while some receive intensive support, others just need occasional help with cooking, budgeting, or learning a new bus route. Over the years, our innovative, person-centered approach has garnered us a great deal of recognition. In 1995, our Executive Director, Lynne Seagle, received the Joseph P. Kennedy Foundation's International Future Leader Award — an honor previously bestowed on Mother Teresa and B. Skinner. In 2008, Hope House received the American Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (AAIDD) national award for full community inclusion. And in 2012, the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR) gave Hope House its prestigious Community Builder Award. But of all our accomplishments, the one that makes us proudest is helping the people we support lead meaningful lives of their own choosing.

When the festival day ends, the celebration keeps rolling! From 5–7 PM, join us for the free and open to the public After Hours Garden pARTy with drinks (adult beverages for sale), live music from Community Witch, and plenty of good energy. It’s a chance to toast the arts, meet the makers, and give a big congrats to this year’s award winners. Come for the art, stay for the party!

Funding for this Garden pARTy honors the life of Germaine Clair, one of the festival’s most enthusiastic supporters.

Hailing from Norfolk, VA, Community Witch blends dark indie, shoegaze, psych-rock, and post-punk with surf-inspired hooks and spellbinding harmonies. Founded by Ana Khrizzia-Velez in 2018, the band has become a staple of the Hampton Roads scene, playing throughout the Mid-Atlantic and sharing stages with Silversun Pickups and Johnny Marr. Their debut full-length, Glass Chrysalis (2025), combines fuzzy guitars, driving rhythms, psychedelic textures, and layered harmonies into a sound that’s dark, hazy, gritty, and distinctly their own.

We're incredibly proud of Kelly Woodruff, Direct Support Coordinator, for representing Hope House Foundation as part of ANCOR's Fall 2026 Ambassador Program! Kelly was chosen from a competitive pool of more than 100 Direct Support Professionals.

After three months of advocacy training, Kelly traveled to Washington, D.C. for ANCOR's 2026 Policy Summit & Hill Day, where she met with congressional staff and shared the impact of person-centered supports and Home and Community-Based Services.

Kelly shared the story about an individual she supported and their journey to living independently and building a successful business, helping lawmakers understand the importance of disability services and community inclusion.
