Don't Duck History

Don't Duck History American history not found in traditional history textbooks: inspired by a duck, delivered with a quack! WHO? WHAT? WHEN? Whenever the opportunity arises! WHERE?

Help us to share the stories, and make history relevant to everyone. OUR MISSION STATEMENT: To promote and facilitate the learning and sharing of American history, along with its personal and social implications, and to highlight the history of Americans whose stories are not often presented in traditional American history textbooks. We are a small but growing group of people who recognize the imp

ortance of lifelong learning, and we do the work! The work has been done on a volunteer basis, with a shoestring budget, and we are now positioning to increase our donations, outreach, and partnerships. We tell stories, dig deep, laugh, learn, teach, create, and share. Social media, a website, a blog, local community events, etc. The program is located in Norfolk VA, but our reach is wide - and open. WHY? Knowledge of history helps to make us well-rounded, thoughtful, insightful, understanding, and productive citizens, and that education should not start or end in a classroom. We all have a story to tell, and those stories need to be told, heard, and preserved for future generations, and they are all important and relevant. As conflicts often arise from misunderstanding, understanding is worth the effort. HOW? By not ducking history! That means changing and/or adding to the narratives that we have been fed, adding perspectives, having difficult conversations about uncomfortable subjects, and acknowledging and appreciating the varied contributors to the story of America. We do this via social entrepreneurship. WHAT IS A SOCIAL ENTREPRENEUR?
“Social entrepreneurs are individuals with innovative solutions to society’s most pressing social problems. They are ambitious and persistent, tackling major social issues and offering new ideas for wide-scale change.”
