Doorbell camera video shows Sarah Hummel running out of her VB home across the street to a neighbor's house, desperate for help with CPR. "The three of us watched him die and it was terrifying!"

Father, I am so grateful that while life shifts like sand, You never change. You are the steady anchor for my soul through every season, mountain, and valley. Even when my own strength falters, Your faithfulness remains perfect and whole. I worship You today for Your quiet, persistent love that never lets me go.

"Great is your faithfulness; your mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:23

Lord, carry what I cannot carry, because I'm weighed down by burdens too heavy for my shoulders, crushed under weight I was never meant to bear alone.

I'm trying to carry everything myself, all the responsibilities, all the worries, all the problems, all the pain, and it's breaking me, I can't do it anymore.

Teach me to distinguish between what's mine to carry and what's Yours, to recognize when I'm bearing weight You never asked me to hold, to release what's crushing me into Your capable hands.

Some burdens are too heavy for me, some situations too big for my strength, some problems beyond my ability to solve, and I need You to take them because I simply cannot.

Help me actually give You what I say I'm giving You, to stop picking back up what I've laid down, to trust You with burdens I've carried so long they feel like part of me.

Remind me that You're not just willing but wanting to carry what's too heavy for me, that You invited this, that asking You to carry my burdens honors You rather than bothers You.

Give me faith to release my grip on what I cannot carry, courage to admit I need help, trust that what I give You will be held securely.

Let me hand over what I cannot carry today, feeling the weight lift as You take it, free because You carry what I could never hold.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.

I Can Do All Things Through Christ Who Strengthens Me

We had our second boy a year and a half ago (Jesse). Before he arrived, I used to think "how are we going to manage two when one feels so hard?"

And of course, two IS harder, more chaos, more demands, less sleep. I can't even imagine three or more. I have so much respect for those who do.

But the strength I needed for two didn't come before I had two. It came when I needed it. God didn't give me capacity for two kids while I only had one. He gave me exactly what I needed when Jesse arrived.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." This isn't a promise that you currently have capacity for everything you might face. It's a promise that Christ provides strength for whatever He calls you to, when you're actually doing it.

Maybe you're facing something that feels impossible, a health crisis, financial struggle, caring for aging parents.

Or maybe you're worried about something coming, a difficult conversation, a major decision, an uncertain future.

Either way, you're thinking "I can't handle this." And you'd be right, not in your own strength.

When Paul struggled with his own weakness, God told him, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." (2 Corinthians 12:9 WEB).

Christ's strength is sufficient for what you're actually facing right now. And for what's coming? You don't have that strength yet because you don't need it yet. God gives us exactly what we need when we need it.

You don't have tomorrow's strength today. What you have is today's strength for today's challenges. And Christ provides that. Every single day.

When the challenge increases, the strength increases to match it. Not before. But when you need it, it's there.

P.S. I write these devotionals every weekday and email them out along with a prayer and journaling prompts. You can sign up to receive them free through the link in the comments.

Lord, lead the way, because I don't know which direction to go, don't trust my own sense of direction, and need You to go first while I follow.

I've tried leading myself and ended up lost, confused, going in circles, and I'm done pretending I know where I'm going without You.

Teach me what it means to follow, to let You set the pace, choose the route, make the decisions while I trust and obey instead of trying to co-lead.

Leading the way means You go first, You're out front, You're the one determining the direction, and my job is simply to follow where You lead.

Help me surrender control of the journey, to stop insisting on my preferred route, to trust that where You're leading is exactly where I need to go.

Remind me that You see what's ahead, know the best path, understand the terrain I can't see yet, and following You is always safer than leading myself.

Give me humility to let You lead, obedience to follow where You go, and trust that Your leadership will take me exactly where I need to be.

Let me walk today behind You, not ahead of You, asking Lord, lead the way, and following wherever You go.

In Jesus' name,

Amen.
