Meet our 2026 Unsung Hero Honoree: Shonder L. Johnson 💜
For more than 20 years, Shonder has served as an assistant physical education teacher at Centerville Elementary School, where she has become far more than an educator to generations of children. She has been a mother figure, mentor, confidante, and friend to students who needed someone to believe in them, encourage them, and remind them of their worth.
Her service did not end when the school bell rang. After long and often exhausting days of pouring into students, Shonder would continue her work as an entrepreneur, operating her own hair business in the evenings. Despite the demands of her day, she still found the energy to pour into her clients, building relationships that extended far beyond hairstyling. For many women, her chair became a place of conversation, encouragement, laughter, friendship, and genuine connection.
She was not simply providing a service; she was creating an environment where women felt seen, valued, and uplifted.
I have witnessed that same spirit in the way she loves and supports her family and friends.
Her legacy is not defined by titles, accolades, or public recognition, but by the countless individuals who are better because they have experienced her love, guidance, wisdom, and compassion.
