As the pictures roll in, there's one word that describes this event. UNITY.

From an array of uniformed personnel hugging and celebrating the person standing next to them, to kids watching in awe as they get to fall in line between their heroes, community representatives taking in the dedication and grit from those who protect their communities as they climb in multiple layers of gear and weights, to the family, friends and local businesses who stand on the sidelines volunteering to make sure this event goes off promptly. Priceless memories captured. Thank you to the media groups who captured these moments. ❤❤

This morning, the Hampton Roads community climbed together to honor the heroes of September 11, 2001, at the Norfolk Fire Foundation’s 9/11 Remembrance Stair Climb at the Norfolk Scope.

With every step, we remembered the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice, along with the police officers, EMS providers, military members, and civilians whose lives were forever changed.

Today, we had the opportunity to honor their courage, service, and sacrifice—and to ensure their stories continue to live on.

Thank you to all the departments, agencies, and partners that showed up for this great event!

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸
