Calling all history and garden lovers! 🌱 Our museum garden is a beautiful space, but needs tending and pruning from time to time as part of our mission to preserve the house and grounds. Please join us tomorrow, Sunday 10/18 at 10am and get your hands dirty as we tend the garden. Please bring your own gloves and pruning sheers.

Throughout October, Virginia celebrates American Archives Month to raise public awareness about the importance of preserving and sharing cultural and historical documents from families, communities, states, and the country at large.

The Hunter House Victorian Museum is blessed with an expansive and unique collection, with over 95% of the material culture in the house being original to the Hunter Family. This month, consider donating to the house to help preserve our unique and precious slice of Norfolk history.

Meet one of our fall interns Milena! ✨ We asked her a couple of questions about her experience so far working at the museum.

What program are you currently enrolled in?
-I am a History major at ODU, with a minor in International Studies.

What do you hope to do with your degree?
-I am finishing my education in retirement. I hope my education will help me find occupational options that will lead to meaningful new experiences in my senior years.

What made you choose HHVM for your internship?
-I love storytelling. When I learned about the family and community history related to the Hunter House, I felt I had found the perfect setting that reflects my passion.

Do you have a favorite object in the collection/space in the house?
-My favorite objects are the hair jewelry. Today, this kind of craft is considered odd. However, in the past, it was meant to reveal love and affection. I love the idea that I have the privilege of persuading visitors about the significance of this Victorian ideal.

Attending the event? There is limited street parking available - be sure to check the signs! We are also located close to the Freemason parking garage. Our parking lot is small and fills up fast, so be sure to leave a little wiggle room for parking to make sure you arrive before your scheduled showtime.
