AFM Local 702 was an historically black local that merged with Local 125 in 1966. Local 702 was in existence in Norfolk, VA from 1946-1966. The merger with Local 125 was voluntary and occurred before mandated desegregation. We would love to know if there are any surviving members of Local 702 or family members who could tell us about your relatives in our musical community. Please share this post if you know someone who might help us discover our history.

This week we celebrate Janet Kriner as our Arts Supporter of the Year. We also celebrate her 90th birthday! Janet is a former principal cello of the Virginia Symphony. She has been a champion of local arts organizations since moving to the area to be a member of the Feldman Quartet. She has served on the board of the Feldman Chamber Music Society, Scherzo Music Club, and Bay Youth Orchestras. We all know her to be a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has been a member of the AFM for 68 years and continues to join us at General Membership meetings. Congratulations, Janet!
