Alpha Phi Lambda began some fifteen (15) years before its actual founding when another chapter, Zeta Lambda was formed in Norfolk, Virginia on April 3, 1920. A delegation from Gamma Chapter at Virginia Union University was present. McGhee, the general secretary of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, made the chapter. Zeta Lambda became the twenty-seventh chapter of the Fraternity and the sixth graduat

e chapter. It is the oldest graduate chapter in Virginia. It has the record of being the graduate chapter with the longest continued active membership in Alpha Phi Alpha.

For 31 years, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Phi Lambda Chapter has been committed to investing in the next generation of young men in partnership with the GWC Brown Legacy Education Fund, , and .

Registration is now open for the 31st Annual Inspirational Youth Breakfast! This event serves as the kickoff to our Alpha Academy program for the 2026-2027 school year.

Male students in grades 6–12 in the Hampton Roads area, along with their parents and guardians, are invited to attend this FREE community event featuring leadership development, mentorship, inspiration, and a powerful keynote address from Delegate Alex Askew.

Thanks to the generous support of the men of Alpha Phi Alpha and our sponsors, there is no cost to attend.

On July 25, we paused to remember Annie C. Singleton, whose life of generosity and compassion helped shape the history of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Known affectionately as the Mother of Alpha Phi Alpha, Mrs. Singleton opened her home to the young men who would become our Founders, offering encouragement, hospitality, and unwavering support during the fraternity's earliest days.

Her legacy reminds us that true leadership is often found in those who quietly serve, uplift, and inspire others.

Last December, Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc., Alpha Phi Lambda Chapter was honored to present the Annie C. Singleton Award to Daun S. Hester, Treasurer for the City of Norfolk, recognizing her outstanding commitment to service and the Hampton Roads community. By honoring leaders who embody Mrs. Singleton's spirit of selfless service, we ensure that her legacy continues to inspire future generations.

Today, we remember Annie C. Singleton with gratitude and celebrate the lasting impact of a woman whose compassion helped strengthen a brotherhood that has served communities for more than a century.

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc, Alpha Phi Lambda Chapter proudly congratulates our 2026 scholarship recipients!

🏆 Scholarship Recipient: Mr. Gabriel Laney
A graduate of Oscar Smith High School, Mr. Laney will attend Columbia University this fall, where he will major in Medical Humanities.

⭐ Runner-Up: Mr. Earling Hunter
A graduate of King's Fork High School, Mr. Hunter will attend Norfolk State University this fall, majoring in Construction Management and Engineering.
