Varsity sailors Lenox (one of our team captains) and Annika have gone to school together since kindergarten at Taylor Elementary.

It was so special seeing them crew a boat during yesterday’s regatta & repping Maury together their senior year. Way to sail hard, ladies! ⛵️

This summer, a few of our sailors gave back to the community by volunteering for the local chapter of Special Olympics Virginia, which holds its sailing program at the ODU Sailing Center.

‘Now in its second year, the program pairs Special Olympians with student volunteers, including members of Maury High School’s Sailing Team.’

Lenox Wakefield (we see your Navy Offshore Sailing Team swag ⚓️), a Maury High sailor, said the experience is about more than just the sport.

“It’s just about being something bigger than yourself, and I love being able to share something that I love with people that have never been able to experience that,” Wakefield said.

Special Olympian Kaitlin D***s, who has previously competed in basketball, soccer, and softball, is now adding sailing to her athletic resume. She said the program offers more than just time on the water’

⛵️Senior Spotlight ⛵️ We are so excited for Nathan’s next steps as he moves on to VA Tech! Having him as the captain of the Hague cohort, leading his classmates in such a charismatic and joyful way, has been the best.

Nathan, the team has looked to you to bring light to dark moments (and hit the committee boat 😂). We are so grateful to have had you on this team & we wish you the best of luck! 🫡⛵️

Tucker McGrady - Senior Spotlight!

Tucker has sailed with Maury since seventh grade, and this team has become a big part of his life. In his mom’s words, “These are his people and he’s going to be sad to leave them.” Tucker will continue his academic and sailing journey at Virginia Tech in the fall.

Tucker, the team will miss your daily leadership and joy for life. 🥹 We wish you all the best in this next chapter! 🫡⛵️ Congratulations!!

It’s Senior Day! Both these sailors are headed in the same direction.
