Norfolk Host recently held a meeting at the ForKids shelter which we annually fund from our foundation. It was a very educational opportunity for our members.

Saturday, we celebrated the 10 most recent graduates of two of our Economic Mobility programs, Strive and Aspire. Both programs are funded by United Way's Women United.

Seven of these amazing, resilient, and determined women graduated from Strive, a 12-18 month program that focuses on increasing housing stability and income; three graduated from Aspire, a 3-year program that works with participants to increase savings and position themselves to earn a living wage income.

These 10 women collectively paid off $62,857 in debt and gained $178,268 in income!

We are so proud of our graduates. They made a decision to lean into the short-term discomfort of growth to give themselves and their families the life they have been dreaming of for years.

Norfolk Host notes with sadness the loss of Lion Ben Hogwood. Ben joined Norfolk Host in 1981. He maintained 35 years of perfect attendance and worked every Broom Sale, White Cane and Vision Screening while his health permitted. He was a Past President, Director, Melvin Jones Fellow and Lion of the Year. Needless to say, he will be sorely missed.

A pleasant meeting this morning in Bologna with Giorgio Dall’Olio, the hard working USA-Italy coordinator responsible for sending all our Italian students to the John M White Youth Exchange Camp over the years. You won’t find a more dedicated Lion. Along with a banner of the five clubs in his valley.
