Norfolk CASA These volunteer advocates are court ordered by judges to investigate and report to the courts third party, child-centered facts and observations.

To support & promote court appointed volunteer advocacy so that every abused and neglected child can be safe from harm, establish permanency, and have the opportunity to thrive. A Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) is a well-trained, well-vetted community member who volunteers to be the voice for a child who is involved in the court system due to abuse and neglect. Court Appointed Special Advocates meet with children monthly, investigate how their time in care is unfolding, and submit reports and attend hearings to update the judge hearing the case. Through all of this, our advocates center the child, giving space, time, and hope to those who need it most.

After 9 years of incredible work for us, Sam-Alex Cutshall stepped back in to help us recruit and train volunteers while we hunted for our next Recruitment & Training Coordinator.

Now, this busy mom and corporate worker is officially passing the baton to Ciara Benz, who was previously a CASA for Blue Ridge CASA for Children.

Don't worryβ€”Sam will still be around as a volunteer. In fact, she's already on to her next case!

Statistics show that about 6.7 million grandparents in the US live in the same home as their grandchildren, and nearly 2.1 million serve as a primary caregiver. Whether full-time caregivers or weekend visitors, grandparents often provide children with emotional support, a link to family history and culture, and the unhurried and unconditional love that allows children to grow into secure adults. Thank you grandparents for all that you do! πŸ’πŸ’™

According to the World Health Organization, su***de is one of three leading causes of death for young people under 25, and studies show that youth in foster care are 2-3 times more likely to contemplate su***de then their peers. Whether you're an advocate, a foster parent, or a trusted adult, take some time this month to learn about the warning signs, protective factors, and support available for young people near you. 🫢🏻
