The Chorale is excited to announce that we will be featured in a story on the Hampton Roads Show on Monday, June 1st! Artistic Director Chuck Woodward and Chorale member Kathryn Kelly will talk about our upcoming encore performance of David Lang's "poor hymnal." The story will air this Monday at 11:00 am on WAVY -TV 10 and 1:00 pm on the CW, and will be posted online HERE as well. We hope you'll tune in!

We will offer this special performance of David Lang's poor hymnal as a free gift to the community, in order to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore as they begin their campaign against summer hunger.

David Lang’s Grammy-nominated “poor hymnal,” is an evocative and hauntingly beautiful reflection on charity and compassion.

First sung by the Virginia Chorale in October 2025, some of our patrons were unable to make it due to flooding from the nor-easter' that hit Hampton Roads that weekend.

From our patrons who did attend, we heard the following: "mesmerizingly beautiful," "emotional and lovely," "a stunning performance," and "the best EVER from the Chorale." We are thrilled to bring this music back to Hampton Roads in June.

The Chorale will present "poor hymnal," composer David Lang's moving composition on charity and compassion, to benefit the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia and the Eastern Shore.
