Dear GSF Friends,

As Thanksgiving approaches, we are reminded of the importance of gratitude, friendship, and community. It’s a time to reflect on the blessings in our lives and share them with others, and what better way to do that than together at our annual International Thanksgiving Banquet!

For nearly two decades, this event has brought together hundreds of international students, scholars, and local friends to experience the warmth and joy of this cherished American holiday. Each year, guests enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving feast, uplifting community, and cultural celebration that make this day truly unforgettable.

This event is open to international students, scholars, and their families from all local universities. Join us for a special afternoon of food, fun, and friendship as we celebrate Thanksgiving together!

Cultural Attire Contest
For the dress code, we encourage everyone to wear their cultural attire, if they have one. Prizes will be awarded to the best-dressed individuals and families. Let’s make this banquet a colorful celebration of cultures from around the world!

Transportation

Transportation will be provided for students from ODU and NSU. If you need a ride, please make sure to include it on the registration form. Students from other universities can also request transportation, and our team will do their best to assist you.

Childcare
Children are welcome! Parents, please include your children's ages and grades on the registration form so our team can plan accordingly.

Thank you to all who attended our first F.I.S.H. Dinner of the semester this past Friday; it was lovely to see all your smiling faces and to get to know you better! We hope to see you again this week for Tuesday Lunch! This Tuesday, we will discuss an important topic: "Balancing Priorities: Time Management and Study Habits." Like everyone else, college students are bombarded by many activities we like to do. Balancing the art of enjoying life with our friends and studying for homework and quizzes is a tricky skill to master, and it can get overwhelming. We have invited some of our students as our panelists to talk so you can hear the importance of time management from the perspective of a college student. This event will equip you with practical strategies to manage your time effectively, making your college experience more enjoyable and less stressful. Reservation: RSVP is mandatory! It’s officially back-to-school season, and GSF is back to our weekly events! We are excited to invite you all to our first F.I.S.H. event of the semester!

The GSF Team is excited to see all your smiling faces this Friday, September 6, 2024, as we talk about some “Fun Activities to do in Hampton Roads!” The Hampton Roads area is the official name for the cities in southeastern Virginia between Old Point Comfort and Sewell’s Point, where the Chesapeake Bay meets the Atlantic Ocean (This includes Newport News, Norfolk, and Virginia Beach!) This event is great for locals and all the new and returning international students and families looking for activities outside of their academia.

Besides presenting the fun activities to explore in our region, we will also share the stage of settling in the US. What can international students expect as they navigate the different challenges of living abroad? How can they develop their emotional and cultural intelligence and get help from others, like the GSF community, to overcome those challenges? You do not want to miss this important event.

Come and join us for this great evening full of smiling faces, fulfilling food, and fun ideas to try while you’re here in the area! Please come fifteen minutes earlier, if you can. A home cooked meal will be provided at 6:00 pm for those in attendance.

Today we had the privilege of serving with the students at New Life Church. Together we worked hard to clean out the storage for our furniture ministry. This will help us to stay organized and make more deliveries to serve more students. It was a lot of fun! Thank you to the students with GSF that also came to volunteer. Last week we had the opportunity for our outreach team to serve at the Urban Renewal Center. The kids learned some African dances, Latin dances, and how to sing and play music. We had a lot of fun with the kids and hope to return next semester. Thank you Trinity Presbyterian for the opportunity to serve the local community! 💃🏻🎶
