American Legion Tidewater Post 327, Norfolk, Virginia is providing food, support and camaraderie to sailors who were evacuated from Bahrain due to the conflict in Iran and now are housed at Naval Station Norfolk. The post has spent the past week feeding and collecting donations of toiletries and gift cards to help the sailors feel at home amid being displaced from their duty station.

I want to take a moment to address something important to our community.

Recently, several news outlets have reached out and attempted to highlight the positive work being done by American Legion Post 327 in support of our Sailors. While we appreciate the recognition, we have also observed some attempts to frame these efforts in ways that align with specific political agendas. Along with some political groups doing the same.

Let us be absolutely clear: American Legion Post 327 remains firmly committed to strict neutrality when it comes to political matters.

Our mission is, and always has been, to serve veterans, active-duty service members, and their families—without bias, without agenda, and without exception. The assistance we provide to Sailors in need is driven solely by our core values of service, compassion, and commitment to those who wear (or have worn) the uniform.

We do not engage in political advocacy, nor do we allow our efforts to be used as a platform for political messaging. Our focus is on people—not politics.

The work being done right now—whether it’s coordinating donations, providing support during times of transition, or simply being there for our service members—is about taking care of our own. That’s it. No hidden motives, no outside influence.

We remain proud of the impact our Post has made and will continue to make, and we thank our community for standing with us and understanding the importance of keeping service above politics.
