It's a great place to visit, volunteer, take a class or celebrate a special occasion. For over 30 years, the Fred Heutte Center - at the intersection of Westover Avenue and Botetourt Gardens in the historic Ghent community of Norfolk, Virginia - has been the focal point of the Friends of Fred Heutte Foundation whose members work to continue Mr. Heutte's wish to enrich our community by sharing his ideals of urban beautification through horticultural education.

You may have wondered about the new, kind of witchy looking structure . It’s a pollinator and wildlife habitat!!! Insects and small animals love stick and twig piles so we’d been saving our trimmings for just this project. brought it to life and it was a joy watching the children carefully orchestrate the Jenga like creation. Thank you so much for your thoughtful hard work! donated 34 native pollinators to Fred (thank you!!!! We are thrilled) and Team Fred planted them around the habitat last Saturday . A wonderful, educational collaboration at Norfolk’s Urban Garden.

Sunday May 24th at 1:30 (yep, tomorrow) we’ve got Paul Ziegler at The Fred to show us how to clean, maintain and and refurbish garden tools. If you’re guilty of tossing your tools aside when you’re done with them and the wondering why they look and perform badly, this is the workshop for you. And it’s free! Join us Saturday June 27th for an introduction to Gel printing. We’ll use garden materials (bring some from your garden if you like) and create gorgeous detailed prints.
