In case you missed the last LP Civic League meeting, this is one of the projects presented and discussed.
🗞️Breaking news!
We're so excited to share an early vision for a proposed pedestrian bridge that could create a safer, more accessible connection between the Lambert's Point and West Ghent neighborhoods along the ERT.
This concept would create a new crossing over the rail corridor, improving access between neighborhoods and replacing a challenging section of the trail (the Hampton Boulevard rail overpass). Designed with walkers, runners, cyclists, families, and trail users of all abilities in mind, the proposed bridge includes:
💚ADA-Accessible Design
💚Lighting + Safer Conditions
💚Opportunities for Public Art + Storytelling
💚Design Details Inspired by Norfolk's History and the ERT
A huge thank you to our friends at Work Program Architects for donating their time and expertise to help imagine what's possible and bring this early vision to life. Their volunteer design work (alongside engineering guidance from partners) is helping spark this incredibly important community conversation about safety, accessibility, and connection along the ERT.
This is an early concept and we are currently in the feedback and feasibility phase, and community input matters. If your neighborhood, civic league, organization, or community group wants to learn more, we would love to share the vision and hear your thoughts.
We want to hear from YOU! What would a safer, more welcoming connection mean for your experience on the Elizabeth River Trail?
