The Virginia Q***r Film Festival provides access to films by, for, and about le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, and q***r (LGBTQ+) people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ+ BIPOC filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences. Our inaugural film festival is June 14-16, 2023 on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. It is the first of its kind in Virginia and one

of only a handful of LGBTQ+ film festivals in the American South. Our vision is to elevate the spectrum of q***r stories to educate, entertain, and build deeper acceptance and understanding of the Southern q***r experience. While we accept submissions from all filmmakers, our mission is to foster local and regional community engagement by showcasing q***r film programming, educational experiences, and social dialogue with a focus on Virginia and Southern voices. Join us at the Le Planetarium on the campus of ODU for this special Pride Month screening of Paris is Burning. This classic 1990 documentary of New York's ballroom culture received overwhelmingly positive reviews, but upon release engendered considerable controversy over the fact that many of the participants did not receive compensation.

Prior to the screening, a group of local panelists familiar with ball culture will discuss the film's legacy both as a landmark film and the surrounding controversy.

This screening is free and open to the public. Sponsored by Naro Video at ODU Libraries, Black Gay Pride, and the Virginia Q***r Film Festival.

Hourly parking is available in the 43rd and Elkhorn parking garage. The Planetarium is in the Chemistry building at 4501 Elkhorn Dr.
