Virginia Queer Film Festival VAQFF.org/schedule for more. Our inaugural film festival is June 14-16, 2023 on the campus of Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA.

The 4th Annual Virginia Q***r Film Festival Begins Friday, October 2nd (1pm) at The Wave in Norfolk and then Saturday & Sunday, October 3rd & 4th at University Theatre at ODU. The Virginia Q***r Film Festival provides access to films by, for, and about le***an, gay, bisexual, transgender, and q***r (LGBTQ+) people and their families, and a forum for LGBTQ+ BIPOC filmmakers to share and discuss their work with audiences. It is the first of its kind in Virginia and one of only a handful of LGBTQ+ film festivals in the American South. Our vision is to elevate the spectrum of q***r stories to educate, entertain, and build deeper acceptance and understanding of the Southern q***r experience. While we accept submissions from all filmmakers, our mission is to foster local and regional community engagement by showcasing q***r film programming, educational experiences, and social dialogue with a focus on Virginia and Southern voices. Honorable is a 72-minute feature documentary about Filipina transgender political campaigns, directed by Rhadem Musawah and Francis Tanglao-Aguas.

Transgender leaders Miel Agustin in Malolos City and Benjie Diones in Zamboanga City, with appearances by Geraldine Roman and Danton Remoto.

Two trans leaders navigate legal vulnerabilities and societal prejudice to run for public office and claim the title "honorable".

This film won Best Documentary at the 2026 Manila SEAIFF, Berlin Indie Film Festival, and Global CineVerse Film Festival.

Coming up at 3:30...another epic submission...Lunar Sway is a 2026 Canadian LGBTQ+ dark comedy film written and directed by filmmaker Nick Butler. The movie centers on Cliff (played by Noah Parker), a young bisexual man living in the remote, fictional desert town of Mooncrest. His already messy love life is thrown into further chaos when his estranged, con-artist birth mother, Marg (played by Gilmore Girls star Liza Weil), abruptly arrives with a trail of dangerous secrets and a vengeful figure from her past close behind.

Barefoot Boy is a 2025/2026 documentary dance film directed by Stéphane Glynn and Jared Ruga that follows legendary dancer and choreographer Bill Evans as he reconciles his q***r identity with his upbringing in a conservative Mormon community.

Legendary American dancer and choreographer Bill Evans, who founded his own major touring dance company and worked with the Joffrey Ballet.

At age 82, Evans returns to Salt Lake City to stage a career-defining performance with the Repertory Dance Theatre, reflecting on the personal costs of hiding his sexuality, marrying, and navigating religious trauma.
