The Virginia General Assembly starts in early January, up for discussion is taxpayer relief. is on the table because of a budget surplus. Both Democrats and Republicans have some ideas which will be debated. Governor Youngkin in his last term has some other ideas.

Here is one that is popular, but the question to ask is- If you cut a tax somewhere, where do you offset it? The state and cities have many budget priorities.

DTRT will be looking into some of these areas and will be providing you information as part of our hot topics - State Government.

Be Informed, Be Engaged, Be Ready.

Governor Glenn Youngkin announced a budget proposal to exempt service tips from Virginia’s State Income Tax on Monday.

City Council is still deciding on whether to charge patients directly. An estimated $14million could be garnered from charging insurance companies.

We need your help! This Tuesday, Virginia Beach City Council will be having a public hearing on the 10-1 election system to send to the General Assembly to amend our city charter - meaning this will be last step in making it law. Please send to city council your thoughts to [email protected]. Support 10-1!

After several federal lawsuits, a change in state law, significant $$ public resources to determine that 10-1 is good, and partisan politics, the people of Virginia Beach overwhelmingly support 10-1.

We have already had two elections 2022 and 2024 where hundreds of thousands of voters have weighed in and elected their choices. Voters directly elect their representative versus in the past you could have lost your district but other districts can vote for people in your district where they may not necessarily know about your district issues.

Oceanfront Hoteliers, Special Interest Developers, and the Political Establishment continue to fight against the change and are putting the hard press effort to revert back to the at-large voting system where they had more sway.

Let's be reminded that Virginia Beach is more than the oceanfront. City Council members vote as a whole on the budget and other issues. 10-1 has proven that representative politics is the best model (i.e.- state district races operate the same way).

Please make your voice heard. Support 10-1 and fight against these special interest groups.

Local elections matter and in Virginia Beach - we need leaders who will put our students and parents first over politics. Sharon Felton has shown over the years that she's a problem solver and has the best interest of students at heart and she has worked tirelessly to help put them on successful pathways. DTRT is proud to endorse Sharon Felton for the At-Large District School Board race.
