Record Field Highlights Northeast Nebraska Junior Tour Stop at Fairplay Golf Course
The Northeast Nebraska Junior Tour made history Monday, June 8, at Fairplay Golf Course in Norfolk, as a record field of 130 junior golfers who competed in the largest event in tour history.
The event brought together players from across the area and beyond, with golfers representing communities such as Norfolk, Columbus, Battle Creek, O’Neill, Hartington, Wayne, Creighton, Pierce, Elgin, Omaha and many more. The day also featured a strong turnout on the girls side, with more than 34 girls participating across the tour’s age divisions.
On the course, the competition matched the size of the field.
In the Boys 16+ division, Norfolk’s Will Brockhaus fired the low round of the day with a 71, finishing one-under par. Norfolk’s Brayden Kosch was second with a 73, while Trevor Hoffman of Leigh placed third with a 74.
The Boys 14-15 division was tightly contested at the top, with Wade Zimmerer of Creighton earning first place with a 75. Collin Heiser of Stuart also finished with a 75 and placed second, while Mason Buller of O’Neill was third with a 77.
In Boys 12-13, Gage Becker of O’Neill took first with a 38, edging Trevan Thompson of Battle Creek, who also carded a 38. Tyson Konicek of Norfolk, Trey Leise of Hartington and Brooks Heine of Hartington tied for third with 39s.
The Boys 9-11 division was won by Benny Wintz of Battle Creek, who shot a 42. Devin Becker of O’Neill finished second with a 45, while Mason Coffman of Norfolk and Kline Abner of Creston tied for third with 47s.
In the Boys 6-8 division, Kelby Taake of Meadow Grove and Bennett Lanman of Norfolk both finished with rounds of 20. Taake won the division in a playoff to claim first place, with Lanman finishing second. Jackson Heller of Battle Creek placed third with a 23.
On the girls side, Aubrey Kosch of Omaha led the Girls 16+ division, shooting an 81. Norfolk’s Lacey Kuchar finished second with an 88, while Leighton Hebb of Norfolk placed third with a 92.
In the Girls 14-15 division, Allison Linnaus of Norfolk earned first place with a 106. Carleigh Chohon of Norfolk was second with a 109, followed by Harper Sudbeck of Norfolk in third with a 115.
Logan Sokol of Columbus won the Girls 12-13 division with a 55, followed by Natalie Linnaus of Norfolk with a 68. Hayden Konicek of Norfolk won the Girls 9-11 division with a 45, while Britlyn Gasper of Columbus was second with a 54 and Macey Baumert of Norfolk finished third with a 56.
In the Girls 6-8 division, Kate Brockhaus of Norfolk placed first with a 37, while Calli Thompson of Norfolk finished second with a 38.
Monday’s event was another strong example of the growth of junior golf in Northeast Nebraska. With a record number of players, strong girls participation and competitive scores throughout the field, the Fairplay stop marked a memorable day for the tour.
