CTA has asked local associations across California to speak out against a late-session proposal that would make it harder for locally elected school boards to seek timely state review when county fiscal oversight fails.

CNTA has joined that statewide effort.

This issue is about local democratic accountability and protecting the ability of school districts to challenge county-level decisions that can affect staffing, class size, benefits, and other locally bargained priorities.

President Ben Williams is asking Assemblymembers Leticia Castillo and Natasha Johnson, and Senators Sabrina Cervantes and Kelly Seyarto, to oppose the proposal.

We will continue to keep members informed when state-level decisions have a direct impact on our local schools, bargaining, or member working conditions.

CNTA members pushed this bargain forward.

The Tentative Agreement includes important movement on SPED and class size.

The TA maintains preschool 5-day for 2026–27 at 17. It reduces preschool 4-day by 4 students. It adds DHH-specific class size language and reduces SDC 1–6 by 2 students.

The TA also includes ESN reductions:
• ESN 1–6: reduce by 2 students
• ESN 7–Adult Transition: reduce by 1 student

For Mild/Moderate 7–12, the TA reduces class size by 4 students. It also adds a consultation period for 7–12 Mild/Moderate non-self-contained classes.

These are meaningful changes for educators and students. They reflect member priorities, sustained bargaining pressure, and the work members put in to stay organized and visible.

Review the full Tentative Agreement in your personal email. Members will decide through the ratification process.

Member organizing moved this bargain.

The TA brings District Intervention/Opportunity back for grades 7–8 starting immediately.

It also improves Standards Based Report Card compensation to 10 hours for 2025–26 and 8 hours for 2026–27.

We have also received questions about retiree health benefits. The TA keeps existing retiree health benefit language in place, but does not increase the District contribution for eligible retirees ages 55–65.

Review the full TA in your personal email. Current CNTA bargaining-unit members will decide through the ratification process.

CNTA members moved this bargain.

The Tentative Agreement includes real movement on salary and Health & Welfare compared to the District’s earlier proposals.

Salary moved from the District’s initial 1.3%, to the District’s final 2.15%, to a TA of 4.31% + SERP.

Health & Welfare also moved, with increased annual District contributions for Single, Two-Party, and Family coverage.

This did not happen by accident. It happened because members stayed informed, visible, organized, and engaged throughout this bargain.

Now members will review the full agreement and decide.
