HONORING THE HONORABLE BROTHER LEONARD FRANCIS MORSE
January 12, 1891 – May 22, 1961

A Scholar. A Minister. An Architect of Brotherhood.

The Brothers of Pi Eta Sigma Alumni Chapter proudly honor the life and legacy of Honorable Brother Leonard Francis Morse, one of the three distinguished Founders of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

On January 9, 1914, Founder Morse, alongside Honorable Brothers A. Langston Taylor and Charles I. Brown, established our beloved Fraternity at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

A gifted scholar and student of the Greek language, Founder Morse was responsible for giving Phi Beta Sigma its name, drafting its first constitution, and serving as the first President of Alpha Chapter.

🔹 A LEGACY OF SCHOLARSHIP AND SERVICE

A graduate of Howard University, Founder Morse pursued advanced studies in theology, education, and philosophy. His distinguished career included serving as Dean of Theology and President of Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida.

As an educator, minister, and community leader, he dedicated his life to uplifting others through knowledge, faith, and service.

Founder Morse also helped establish numerous Sigma chapters, particularly throughout Florida, expanding the reach of the Brotherhood he helped create.

🔹 WORDS OF WISDOM

In Howard University’s 1915 yearbook, The Mirror, Founder Morse left these timeless words:

💙 “Smooth runs the water where the brook is deep.”

A powerful reminder that true wisdom, strength, and character often speak through quiet confidence and purposeful action.

🔹 HIS LEGACY LIVES THROUGH US

Founder Morse entered Omega Chapter on May 22, 1961, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of scholarship, leadership, and dedication to humanity.

As Brothers of Pi Eta Sigma, we honor Founder Morse by pursuing knowledge, strengthening our Brotherhood, and continuing the mission of service he helped establish.

His wisdom shaped our foundation. His leadership strengthened our Brotherhood. His legacy continues through every Sigma Man committed to serving humanity.

HONORING THE HONORABLE BROTHER CHARLES IGNATIUS BROWN
August 27, 1885 – December 21, 1981

A Scholar. A Trailblazer. A Legacy Rediscovered.

The Brothers of Pi Eta Sigma Alumni Chapter proudly honor the life and legacy of Honorable Brother Charles I. Brown, one of the three distinguished Founders of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Incorporated.

On January 9, 1914, Founder Brown, alongside Honorable Brothers A. Langston Taylor and Leonard F. Morse, established our beloved Fraternity at Howard University in Washington, D.C.

Serving as the Fraternity’s first Vice President, Founder Brown played a vital role in its early development and is credited with selecting the nine charter members of Phi Beta Sigma.

A dedicated scholar and educator, Brown graduated from Howard University on June 3, 1914. He later helped establish the Delta Chapter at Kansas State University on April 9, 1917, and served as a teacher in Topeka, Kansas.

🔹 A LEGACY REDISCOVERED

For decades, Founder Brown’s whereabouts remained a mystery to the Brotherhood. In 2015, through the determination of Sigma Brothers and historical researchers, his final resting place was located, bringing renewed recognition to his remarkable journey.

In the 1914 Howard University yearbook, Founder Brown left us with these powerful words:

💙 “No legacy is so rich as honesty.”

His words remind us that true greatness is measured not simply by recognition, but by character, integrity, and the impact we leave upon others.

As Brothers of Pi Eta Sigma, we honor Founder Brown by preserving his history, upholding his principles, and continuing the mission he helped establish.

His legacy was never forgotten. His contributions will forever remain part of Sigma’s foundation.
