Did you know parking on tall, dry grass can ignite a wildfire?

Catalytic converters in your vehicle’s exhaust system can reach temperatures above 1,000 degrees F under normal operating conditions, while dry grass ignites at only 600 F.

Even pulling off the road briefly in tall dry grass may be enough to ignite a wildfire. Exhaust temperatures are highest while the engine is under load (driving down the road). Stopping your vehicle in dry grass after driving can expose the grass to temperatures well above the grass’s ignition temperature.

Always use caution when stopping on the side of the road. Choose an area with enough space that allows you to safely get out of the flow of traffic, without having to stop in dry grass/vegetation.
