Individuals with Abolish Abortion Indiana are proposing an improvement to the 2026 Indiana GOP platform for the paragraph titled "We believe in the sanctity of life." and it reads as follows:
We believe in the sanctity of life.
We believe in the sanctity and inherent dignity of every human life from the moment of conception until natural death. We affirm that all people are created in the image of God and endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, chief among them the Right to life. The guarantees of life and equal protection recognized in both the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States reflect this foundational truth: that no innocent human being may justly be deprived of life without due process and equal protection under the law.
Accordingly, we affirm that every preborn child is a distinct human life possessing the same intrinsic value and fundamental rights as every other member of the human family. We therefore support the equal protection of preborn children under Indiana law and oppose abortion in all circumstances, including IVF, as a violation of the God-given rights and human dignity of the preborn. We believe civil government has a moral and constitutional duty to defend innocent life and to uphold justice for all persons, born and preborn alike. That means murdering or being an accomplice to the murder of a preborn human being comes with the same legal penalty as murdering or being an accomplice to the murder of a born human being. Preborn human beings deserve equal justice and protection. And we assert that any law regarding the legality of abortion which fails to outlaw the murder of preborn human beings from conception legitimizes the murder of some children and is therefore iniquitous and entirely unacceptable.
But unfortunately the official draft says this:
We believe in the sanctity of life. We believe in the sanctity of human life from conception to natural death. The U.S. Constitution’s guarantee that no one can “be deprived of life, liberty or property” deliberately echoes the proclamation made in the Declaration of Independence that “all” are “endowed by their Creator” with the inalienable right to life. Accordingly, we assert the sanctity of human life and believe that the unborn child has a fundamental right to life which cannot be infringed. We celebrate the overturning of Roe v. Wade, and are proud that Indiana’s Republican-led legislature was the first in the nation to introduce new protections for life following that decision, while recognizing the fight for life is far from over.
