Wetlands are in danger – but you can take action https://ow.ly/FOnU50ZUivg

The EPA has proposed a rule that would exempt 86% of freshwater wetlands in the US and 79% of streams from Clean Water Act protections. This leaves critical – and dwindling – wetland habitats in Indiana open to pollution and development without mitigation.

Public comments are due this Friday, October 9th. Use the Natural Resource Defense Council’s handy tool to submit a public comment opposing this rule: https://ow.ly/FOnU50ZUivg

A view of Saturn 🪐 from Dillon Park last night.

The night didn’t pass without the local residents making their presence known. First was the unmistakable call, “Who cooks for you?” from the Barred Owl. Later the sound of emergency vehicles set off the coyotes who mistook the sirens 🚨 for rivals that might cross into their territory. Lastly, as I sat looking up at the night sky it was the Great Horned Owl’s🦉 turn to announce his proximity with deep soft hoots in the crisp night air. This was my first time ever hearing both species of owl call in the same night. This place really is special and rich with wildlife.

Keep looking up. Keep listening. And keep Indiana wild!

A little out of focus 🤪 but not quite out of Indiana yet! This Ruby-throated hummingbird feeding on common jewelweed at Dillon! feeding our friends along the way!

I love this. Less mow and more natives!

I love when the fog settles in the middle of the wetland

A pair of migrating Rose-breasted Grosbeaks feed at Dillon Park wetland area before continuing on with their journey to Central or South America.

Many migratory birds stop here in the Spring and Fall to rest and refuel for the long journey ahead.
