Nixon Lions Club Fireworks on Friday!

It’s time for the Nixon Lions Club fireworks show!please make sure you find the folks listed below and thank them for their contribution and support for the Independence Day weekend celebrations!

We are $1,450 short of our goal. If you would like contribute, please let us know. See a Lions Club member, use rage QR code on the poster, message us through Facebook or drop off a donation at Third Coast Bank or Janicek Insurance. It is not too late to add your name to the souvenir poster that will be printed on Thursday.

Nixon-Smiley CISD Families,
Due to the winter weather this weekend and out of an abundance of caution, the District will have a two-hour delay to the start of school on Monday, January 26. School will begin two hours late, which means the Elementary will start their day at 9:40, and the Middle and High schools will begin at 9:50. Bus riders will be picked up two hours later than their normal pickup time. The buses and buildings are ready to go, and we look forward to seeing your children tomorrow. If something should change with the weather or road conditions, we will notify you as soon as possible.

On Saturday, December 20, 2025, members of the Gonzales County Fire South gathered for our annual Christmas Party and Awards Ceremony to recognize outstanding performance, dedication, and service to our community.

This year’s recipients are:

• Officer of the year - Asst Chief Michael Martinez

• Top Responder - Firefighter Michael Lafferty

• Firefighter of the year - Firefighter Jeremiah Rivera

We are proud to recognize these individuals for their professionalism, dedication, and the positive impact they make in our community each day.

Santa is about to depart the Smiley Fire Station and making his rounds in town.

Santa is about to cross Hwy 80. He’s still in 3rd Ave. this will complete Santa’s tour for Nixon. He will be in Smiley tomorrow.
