🎽 Uniforms in Scouts BSA — What’s the Difference?

There are two common ways Scouts show their identity:

đź‘” Field Uniform
The official uniform—worn at meetings, ceremonies, and formal events. It builds pride and unity.

đź‘• Activity Uniform
A more relaxed option—often a troop or Scouting T-shirt—used for outings, service projects, and active events.

đź’ˇ Important reminder:
A Scout is never denied participation or advancement due to not having a uniform.

It’s not about what you wear—it’s about living the values.

What a Board of Review Is — and What It Is Not

A board of review is a supportive, friendly conversation designed to encourage the Scout and review their Scouting experience. It helps confirm that requirements have been completed and provides valuable feedback to both the Scout and the troop.

A board of review is not:
• A retest of skills
• An examination of knowledge
• A comparison of one Scout to another
• A place to add requirements

According to the Guide to Advancement, boards of review are meant to assess a Scout’s experience, growth, and understanding of Scouting ideals, while also identifying ways the troop can improve its program.
(Guide to Advancement 8.0.1.1, 8.0.1.2)

When conducted properly, boards of review strengthen advancement, reinforce the Scout Oath and Scout Law, and support each Scout’s journey.

A SCOUT IS REVERENT….

BSA was founded on February 8, 1910. Today our scouts celebrated “Scout Sunday” at Nixon Church where our troop meets, as well as at their home churches. Scout Sunday helps raise awareness about Scouting among parishioners and highlights all Scouts’ Duty to God as well as recognize the contributions of young people and adults to Scouting. Nixon UMC uses this time to recognize all forms of scouting, not just Scouts BSA. So today scouts from both BSA and GSA organizations were recognized and celebrated! Thanks also to Clinton Presbyterian Church and North Main Street Church of God for celebrating this with our scouts at those locations.

Scouts, scouting families and to all of those individuals and organizations who support scouting. Not only with our troop but all of scouting, we thank YOU for your continued support to keeping scouting alive and growing for our youth, for our future!!

Tuesdays meeting scouts practiced knots and their scouting knowledge! They had to answer random questions from their scout book to earn a short piece of rope then tie their ropes together to make a long throw rescue rope! And their knot tying abilities were put to the test along with their teamwork to pull the stranded leader across the room! If their knots came apart, they would have to earn more rope to tie on to complete the rescue!
