On May 16, 2025, a powerful tornado tore through the heart of St. Louis, causing widespread damage across the city. Homes, businesses, and infrastructure were impacted, and debris has left many streets impassable.

Early the next morning, on May 17, Missouri Baptist Disaster Relief (MODR) deployed a feeding team to support the dedicated members of the St. Louis Police and Fire Departments. In addition, chainsaw teams have been requested to assist with debris removal, helping clear roads and restore access for emergency services and residents.

We ask that you join us in praying for all those affected by this disaster—and for the volunteers who are serving with compassion and strength in difficult conditions.

How You Can Help:

To support MODR’s ongoing disaster relief efforts:

Well I was hoping to make some noise with the chainsaw this morning but we're rained out. We don't control the weather, but we serve the One Who does! Lord and volunteers willing we'll knock these jobs out soon.

So thankful that Tri County's disaster relief ministry gives our people an opportunity to be a blessing to help folks who can't help themselves. It's a sweat-equity way to proclaim Jesus, who came and helped US when we couldn't help ourselves!

TRI-COUNTY DISASTER RELIEF UPDATE

After last Sunday's storm, I've been made aware of a few spots in our Association's geographic area where folks still need some help cutting limbs: Ozark and Branson.

Tomorrow morning a couple of us from Tri County are meeting up with some folks from Greene County Disaster Relief to do help a couple of households (one of these is a pastor's house). We're meeting up at the Burger King in Ozark at 830 am and going from there. If you can lend a hand it will be welcomed!

Also between Ozark and Sparta, Mt. Zion Baptist Church has some limbs down on the south side of their property that needs cutting.

There are a couple of places in Branson where a family needs help (elderly folks). Hopefully that can be taken care of in the next week.

I also understand that there are places in the Rockaway Beach area that need attention.

Tri County has a chainsaw trailer equipped with great equipment.
Help me pray for the Tri County person willing to help coordinate our Tri County ministry. And for folks from our churches willing to go thru the very excellent training provided by MO Baptist Disaster Relief ministry, and then be able to help out when the need arises.

Just heard from DOM John Vernon, Cape Girardeau Baptist Association about damage from a tornado in his area yesterday:

Glennallen took a major hit, several killed by the tornado there. Scopus, about 2 miles from my home also was hit but just barns and other out buildings. We lost power for about 9 hours but that is minor compared to everything else around us. DR assessment teams are working on a plan. The broader community is responding well with many volunteering in whatever way they are able. We have good local leadership in Marble Hill that has created an organized response. Relief efforts really begin in the morning at 8am.

Had a great Tri-County Disaster Relief chili lunch today with some experienced hands as well as potential new volunteers, not to mention the ONLY disaster relief emotional support dog in the whole Southern Baptist Disaster Relief ministry, Missouri's own Steele!

We want to encourage Tri-County folks who have an interest in learning how they can be a blessing to people in crisis situations to attend the upcoming training in Clinton (see flyer below)--to register: https://modr.org/dr-training/clinton Others who have been trained in the past and need to re-certify should consider attending the training in Clinton as well.

Our upcoming priorities in Tri-County Disaster Relief are:
1. increase awareness of Tri-County's Disaster Relief ministry
2. train new volunteers so that we're prepared to go when called upon to do so (it would be great for some Tri-County folks to be trained in doing child care in crisis situations--this will be covered at the training in Clinton)
3. do maintenance on the chain saws in our chain saw trailer
4. re-wrap both our trailers (chain saw and flood recovery)

If you have questions, send Phillip a message on Facebook Messenger.
