Nixa Watch

Nixa Watch Nixa Watch, as a group believes in three Core Principles: Fiscal Responsibility, Constitutionally Limited Government, and Free Markets.

Nixa Watch is a non-partisan grassroots organization comprised of individuals who are united by our Core Principles. These three Core Principles are derived from the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution of the United States of America, and the Constitution of the State of Missouri. We recognize and support the strength of grassroots organization powered by activism and civic responsibilit

y at the local level. We hold that the United States is a republic conceived by its architects as a nation whose people were granted "unalienable rights" by our Creator. Chiefly among these are the rights to "life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness." Nixa Watch stands with our founders, as heirs to this republic, to claim our rights and duties which preserve their legacy and our own. We hold, as did the founders, that there exists an inherent benefit to our country when private property and prosperity are secured by natural law and the rights of the individual.

Yesterday two pictures were posted of a screw loose at the new McCauley Park. Basically showing that for two months, after being told about it, the parks department left the screw unattended to. There were a few comments essentially saying “Why not just go fix it yourself?” And it appears that individual may have fixed it in response to my post, or perhaps someone from Nixa Parks and Recreation finally went over there an fixed it. Regardless, the reality is that the citizens of Nixa pay taxes that go to the Parks Department too. We paid for that new park, we also pay for the maintenance of it. And since the screw was fixed after the post, it shows just how easy of a fix it was. So why didn’t the department getting money to maintain the playground not just run out there and fix it two months ago? It’s true a private citizen could have just fixed it. If the question becomes “Why didn’t a private citizen just fix it? Why complain that the government didn’t do their job?” Then the conclusion should also be that the department is showing it’s irrelevance and those tax dollars should go back to the people. We thank the individual who fixed the screw at the playground. If it was a private citizen, then you prove my point that this is an easy fix and one the department should’ve done right away. If it was the Parks Department, then can you explain why it took two months?

The first picture was taken July 10th, the second picture was taken yesterday. This was reported to Nixa Parks and Recreation in July. They did nothing! For two months there has been a loose screw at the new McCauley Park! A loose screw the department knew about!

Update: It appears in response to this post someone went to fix it.

The first taxation protest in America was against an excise tax on alcohol and sugar. The young United States had only declared independence from England a mere 18 years earlier, among the many reasons was high taxation! This flag belonged to the Whiskey Rebellion. The monarchist sympathizer, Alexander Hamilton, urged President George Washington to send federal troops to squash the protests. Hamilton feared what might happen if people questioned the government. Washington, who trusted Hamilton a little too much, sent the troops. However Thomas Jefferson would remark that the troops were laughed at, not feared at all. Ultimately though the rebellion ended and the tax remained until Jefferson repealed it in 1801.

It isn't that we do not want government. We just want a responsible government. Limited in scope, yet fulfilling obligations. To achieve this we must look outside the box. How can Nixa jump out of the box?

Nixa watch was created by a few concerned citizens. It has gone through some changes and evolved. We've tackled taxes and other issues. Our goal is to promote a policy of fiscal responsibility and a limited government. That means fewer regulations that restrict new business. It means cutting from the budget all fat and waste. We want Nixa to be a thriving community. We are not the government. We are not elected officials. We are private citizens. This page is for us to gather together and work together. Share this page. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

Earlier today we asked you to share things you would like to see cut to save the city money. Below is a modified list that we had posted on Vote NO Nixa. We will be adding to this and sending it to the City Council. So please continue to send us your suggestions. As a private message or in the comments below.

$20,000 - New City website
$27,000 - SiFi Survey
$35,000 - City Hall digital sign
$9,000 - “Your Vote Matters” campaign
$18,800 - Fireworks display
$15,000 - 2014’s failed tax increase
$950 - Recount cost for failed tax increase
$7,000 - The cost to put the tax on the ballot again this year
$800 - MRAP (armored vehicle)
$1,000 - MRAP yearly cost (acquired in 2014)
$8,000 - Painting the MRAP
$13,700 - The police department has a line item that just says; “robot.” ?
$7,800 - Parks Department fax machine
$825 - Arm Curl Bench
$2,750 - “Newspaper Publications”
$3,250 - Newsletter
$5,000 - Parks Department TVs
$33,000 - Parks signs
$20,000 - Parks Department Advertising

= $228,875

That is the number we could cut. This is based on a looking over the City's budget in the link below.

The City also subsidizes the community center which competes with privately owned/run gyms.

The cost is: $209,400

That brings the total we could possibly cut to $438,275

We are going to add to this list before we officially submit it to the City Council. So please share your ideas too.

One thing that was discussed at last night's City Council meeting was looking at the budget for areas to cut. Later today we will post a list of things we would suggest cutting. What would you as a tax payer like to see cut from the budget? Leave your comment below. Together we can compile a list and give it to the council. Maybe the Council will consider it when they create the 2016 budget.
