A quick summery of his involvement at 96. In 1764 Andrew Pickens moved to Abbeville from Pennsylvania, marrying Rebecca Calhoun, daughter of John C Calhoun. Already a proven officer in the battle against the British led Cherokee Wars, he fought for the Patriots in the Revolutionary battle in 1775 at the Battle of Williamson’s Fort at Ninety Six, (the first major battle south of New England during the Revolution). His home was burnt in 1780 by the British. He would eventually became a Brigadier General and a vital part of the Patriot’s war against the British. His rebuilt home, Hopewell Plantation is located on the campus of Clemson University.
