Today is the Catholic Feast of the Assumption, celebrated on 15 August, and the Eastern Orthodox and Eastern Catholics celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos (the falling asleep of the Mother of God) on the same date. This is a significant feast day for Poles since Mother Mary is the Queen of Poland and revered by pilgrims as "Czarna Madonna" - the Black Madonna.
