Come on out to the Heart City Health fair this Saturday 8/12/23, Noon to 3pm to see US! We will be handing out literature and talking to families about the dangers of fentanyl/synthetic fentanyl! This is super last minute, but when the universe brings your Wolfpack to your literal face, you listen❤️ Besides seeing us there, there will be many other vendors, games, food, backpacks, prizes and I hear the fire department is making a special stop to cool everyone down! U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that deaths due to poisonings from the synthetic opioid fentanyl is on the rise nationwide, many children’s poisonings are accidental and often because the children who took the drug didn’t know what they were swallowing.
Fentanyl is a synthetic opioid that was originally developed for medical use, for the treatment of pain and is very potent opioid-because it's so potent, it can cause respiratory depression and cause people to die by poisoning.
In 2021, over 100,000 people in the U.S. died of drug poisoning. It's estimated that about two-thirds of those were fentanyl. About 150 people each day die from fentanyl poisoning, most of which are unintentional and accidental.

New York City DEA seized approximately 300,000 fake oxycodone pills containing fentanyl, plus five kilograms of powdered fentanyl (over 11 pounds), from the Bronx. The fentanyl was discovered inside the gas tank of a vehicle and carries an estimated street value of $5 million. An NYPD K9 alerted the presence of narcotics in the vehicle, but agents and officers were unable to identify the precise location. An inspection of the phone allegedly revealed photographs of bundles of cash and what appeared to be a hidden access to the Ford Expedition’s gas tank from inside of the vehicle. Agents discovered the gas tank was accessible from the rear floor area. Approximately 300,000 blue fake oxycodone pills containing fentanyl and five kilograms of powdered fentanyl were contained in vacuum sealed packages, and submerged in the vehicle’s gas tank.

DEA Is Reporting Widespread Threat of Fentanyl Mixed with Xylazine

The DEA is warning the American public of a sharp increase in the trafficking of fentanyl mixed with xylazine. Xylazine, also known as “Tranq,” is a powerful sedative that the FDA has approved for veterinary use.

Xylazine is making the deadliest drug threat our country has ever faced, fentanyl, even deadlier! The DEA has seized xylazine and fentanyl mixtures in 48 of 50 States. DEA Laboratory System is reporting approximately 23% of fentanyl powder and 7% of fentanyl pills seized by the DEA contained xylazine in 2022 alone!

Xylazine and fentanyl drug mixtures place users at a higher risk of suffering a fatal drug poisoning. Because xylazine is not an opioid, naloxone (Narcan) does not reverse its effects. Experts always recommend administering naloxone if someone might be suffering a drug poisoning. People who inject drug mixtures containing xylazine also can develop severe wounds, including necrosis—the rotting of human tissue—that may lead to amputation.
