Yesterday evening, Niles Fire hosted a high rise training. Crews from Niles Township, Howard Township and Buchanan City trained on horizontal standpipe operations, FDC hookup, and Interior high-rise pack connections.

Training and working together builds trust and strengthens relationships. Mutual aid is essential for response and operating more efficiently on the fireground.

Busy month for Niles Fire crews! Squad 1 assisted with fire attack.

At 3:22 PM today, Niles Township Fire was dispatched to the 2400 block of Walton Road on the report of a building fire. E-1421 arrived first due on scene to find a pole barn with heavy smoke coming from the man door and the rear of the structure. Crews made an aggressive attack and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

Buchanan City E-4621 and Niles City Squad 1 responded on the full still alarm.

Over the weekend members from Niles Fire had the privilege to participate in hazmat, and truck ops training with students from the Berrien County Fire program. This class focused on hazmat operations and truck techniques. Great job by all!

At 4:38 PM today, Niles Township Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 2300 block of E. Main Street. E-1421, E-1422, and Niles Fire IAFF Local 2317 Squad 1 responded on the full still alarm.

Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire conditions on the first floor, and heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. The fire was held to the full still alarm, and was brought under control within minutes of arrival. There were no civilian injuries reported.

- This evening your City of Niles Firefighters responded auto aid to the 1400 block of S. Redbud Trl. Bertrand Township for a working structure fire. Niles Fire assisted with command and fire attack. All crews on scene did a great job. There were no injuries reported.

- This morning, your City of Niles Firefighters were dispatched to the 1700 block of E. Main St. for a working structure fire.

Upon arrival, Fire 102 had a single-story commercial structure with nothing showing. First-due Squad 1 made entry and found a small fire in an office. Team 35 and NTFD 1422 crews assisted in checking for fire extension. All crews did a great job. The fire was brought under control within 15 minutes. No injuries were reported.

- Just before 01:30 and 06:30 am this morning, your City of Niles Firefighters were dispatched to the 3300 Block of Bear Walk Ln. in Milton Twp and the 1100 block of S. 3rd St. for possible structure fires.

Upon arrival at Bear Walk Ln, Squad 1 crew assissted NTFD with a small fire in a crawl space. When clearing the scene, the city dispatched units for a fire alarm at a second location on 3rd St. On arrival E3 and S1 had a two-story assisted living facilty with nothing showing.

Teams E3, 102 and 1421 (NTFD) were met with smoke and fire in a utility room on the second floor. Crews forced entry and extinguished a small fire.

Mutual aid teams helped with primary search and evacuation. All crews on the fire ground did a great job, with no injuries reported. The fire is currently under investigation.
