Hey City of Niles Fill the Boot for Muscular Dystrophy Association is coming to Niles this weekend for our Four Flags Area Apple Festival.

Our Firefighters will be out collecting donations to support families living with neuromuscular disease. Since 1954, this traction has brought communities and firefighters together to make a difference.

Today at 1332 hours, Niles Township Fire was dispatched to Miller Drive in the Oak Manor neighborhood for a commercial dryer on fire at a laundromat. SQ-14, E-14, and SQ-67 all responded on the still alarm.

Fire Marshal 67 arrived first on scene and reported smoke showing from the front door. SQ-67 and E-14 initiated a quick knockdown of the fire, which was largely contained to the commercial dryer in question. Further units assisted in removing smoke from the building. No injuries were reported at this incident.

As always, we are grateful to be able to serve our citizens and guests alike.

- Yesterday afternoon, your City of Niles Firefighters were dispatched to the 200 block of N. 7th Street for a reported working residential fire.

Upon arrival, Fire Marshal 67 found a two-story residential structure with heavy fire showing from the Alpha side (front) and reports of four occupants still inside.

Niles Fire crews immediately went into rescue mode. Crews successfully performed a VES (Vent-Enter-Search) rescue, locating and removing an individual from the second-story bedroom window. Two other occupants were able to evacuate themselves from the home.

Niles Township Squad 14 made an aggressive fire attack on the first floor and was also able to rescue 3 cats from the residence.

Unfortunately, there was one fatality in the incident. The fire remains under investigation, and no further details are available at this time.

Overnight, your City of Niles Firefighters responded mutual aid to assist Dowagiac Fire Department for a working commercial fire.

Tower 67 responded and assisted with fireground operations. Strong working relationships and trust between neighboring departments are critical, not only for our members, but for the communities we serve.

Mutual aid plays a huge part in keeping our firegrounds safe. Great job to all crews
