Niles Township Fire participated in a joint training tonight with Niles Fire IAFF Local 2317. Personnel drilled on the proper use of auto extrication equipment, extrication theory, and on-scene safety procedures.

As always, we consider it a privilege to be able to continue to serve our community with professionalism, and training is key to that goal.

Tonight your Niles Township firefighters trained on boat operations and water rescue equipment in a joint training with Niles Fire IAFF Local 2317

🚨A reminder to all Niles Township residents🚨

If you do not have smoke detectors in your home (or do not have enough), please call Station 2 at (269) 683-3311 and we will install them for you FREE of charge!

There should be one detector in every room in which someone sleeps, one on every floor of the house, and one in the hallway outside of bedrooms.

Members of IAFF Local 2428 are happy to serve, and would love to help make your home as safe as possible!

This evening, Niles Township Fire participated in a “high rise ops” training with Niles City Fire, Buchanan City Fire, and Howard Township Fire. Personnel trained on ladder placement, standpipe operations, and supplying the FDC at high occupancy multi-story buildings.

While Niles Township and Niles City train together at all monthly trainings, we’ve been lucky enough to have departments from our neighboring communities attend our trainings as well. We work with these departments regularly on box alarms and major scenes, so having the ability to train with them allows us to be even better prepared to serve the needs of Niles Township and our surrounding communities.

At 3:22 PM today, Niles Township Fire was dispatched to the 2400 block of Walton Road on the report of a building fire. E-1421 arrived first due on scene to find a pole barn with heavy smoke coming from the man door and the rear of the structure. Crews made an aggressive attack and extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

Buchanan City E-4621 and Niles City Squad 1 responded on the full still alarm.

In the last 8 days, Niles Township Fire has responded to 6 reported building/contents fires.

We thought this would be a good opportunity to remind our residents to check your smoke detectors to ensure they are operating properly. Detectors should be tested every month, and batteries should be changed when we change our clocks (i.e. spring forward, fall back). There should be one detector in every room where someone sleeps, and one on every floor of the house.

At 7:08 AM Niles Township Fire was dispatched to the 2300 block of East Main for a 2 vehicle auto accident with one vehicle smoking from the engine compartment. Fire crews assisted EMS and PD units on scene.

At 4:38 PM today, Niles Township Fire was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 2300 block of E. Main Street. E-1421, E-1422, and Niles Fire IAFF Local 2317 Squad 1 responded on the full still alarm.

Upon arrival, crews were met with heavy fire conditions on the first floor, and heavy smoke conditions on the second floor. The fire was held to the full still alarm, and was brought under control within minutes of arrival. There were no civilian injuries reported.
