Thank you to Vanessa—one of our board members—for stepping in and helping out at DD Day

Each year, DDAWNY hosts a resource event for developmentally disabled individuals, their families, and community providers at the Niagara Falls Convention Center. It’s a great opportunity to learn about services and supports, connect with others, and build community through shared resources and networking

We are excited to partner with Burchfield Penney Art Center for a safe, sensory-aware art experience for neurodivergent individuals and their families.

Join us for these sensory-aware sessions, a free, creative program for neurodivergent individuals and their families. In a welcoming and inclusive environment, children, teens, adults, parents, siblings, and other relatives can enjoy a tour followed by hands-on art experiences. Through playful, low-pressure activities, participants can support social connection, encourage engagement, and explore new ways to experience art. A quiet space with sensory items will also be available as a calm retreat when needed.

Today, the AAC Project of WNY partnered with the Burchfield Penney Art Center to launch Neurobelonging Tours: Sensory Crossovers — See sounds. Feel colors. Experience art differently.

Designed for neurodivergent individuals and their families, this pilot tour offers a welcoming, sensory‑friendly, and interactive way to experience art together.

A heartfelt thank you to the incredible docents and to Education Director Mary for creating such a thoughtful and engaging experience. We’re also deeply grateful to the families who joined us and helped make this pilot tour so meaningful.

Just as Charles Burchfield saw sounds and felt colors—what he called “Sensory Crossovers”—we invite everyone to explore art in a space where every way of sensing and experiencing the world is valued and celebrated.

This is only the beginning, and we look forward to creating more opportunities for neurobelonging in the arts.
