In December 2012, six-year-old Jesse Lewis, was shot and killed at Sandy Hook Elementary School alongside 19 classmates and six educators.

Shortly after the tragedy, Jesse’s mother Scarlett Lewis discovered that he used his final moments to save nine of his classmates. When the shooter stopped to reload, Jesse yelled to his classmates to run. His courage and his love for them is a lesson for all of us. Scarlett realized this violent act began with an angry thought in the perpetrator's head. She also knew that an angry thought could b

e changed. Just before the funeral, Scarlett found a message Jesse wrote on their kitchen chalkboard shortly before he died which read, “Nurturing Healing Love.” Using Jesse’s example of courage and his message of hope, Scarlett started a global movement to teach others how to choose love. She founded the Jesse Lewis Choose Love Movement™ to foster the understanding that we can educate and encourage individuals to choose loving thoughts over angry thoughts. Jesse’s message is the foundation of our work and the driving force behind the Movement.
