In honor of Memorial Day, the Rappahannock Tribal Center will be closed on Monday, May 25.

Let us take the weekend to reflect on the sacrifices many brave souls have made to give us our freedom. We are forever grateful for their service.

The other week, the River Network awarded Chief Anne their River Hero Award at their annual conference in San Antonio, Texas.

Chief Anne’s enduring words in her acceptance of the award; "Never give up and never forget that you can do the impossible!"

Yesterday, we gathered with Tribal Chiefs, leaders, preservation partners, citizens, and the press to recognize Preservation Virginia naming Chief WaHōnSeNaKah’s (Powhatan) birthplace as one of Virginia’s most endangered historic places.

It was a great event, filled with people who are ready to advocate for the protection of Chief Powhatan’s birthplace. As of today, this historical site is facing development threats from a private company.

Data centers are growing fast, and their impact is closer to home than many realize.

These large facilities power the digital tools we use every day, but they also require significant amounts of energy and water. Industry sources report there are now over 5,500 facilities across the country, with Northern Virginia handling an estimated 70% of global internet traffic.

For the Rappahannock Tribe, conversations about large-scale digital operations are also conversations about land, water, and long-term stewardship.

We encourage you to stay informed, ask questions, and pay attention to what’s being developed around you. If you’re seeing large-scale projects in your area, we invite you to reach out and share what you’re learning or leave a comment about what you are experiencing.
