The Story:
Having grown up in Newtown, we can all say that this place has given us some of the happiest, most joyous experiences in life as well as some of the most painful. Many people, including myself, have turned to artistic expression as an effective outlet. Through these experiences we discover the powerfully reaffirming experience of embracing and connecting to our community. And thus, the
seed of MouthPeace is born. We realized that there is a serious need for a place where people can interact and connect with one another while participating in artistic expression. MouthPeace Arts is planning a series of events in Newtown for the people of Newtown and of the surrounding areas who find love and expression in the arts. This will include musicians, poets, painters, hula-hoopers and especially those who appreciate the arts and want to cultivate this interest, and explore something new and exciting. MouthPeace Arts hopes to engage the local youth by creating a nomadic community arts space, that will encourage all disciplines of the arts and will not be limited to one location. At the start we plan to host concerts, exhibitions, poetry slams and more at various locations in town. Once we foster a following and establish ourselves as a dedicated part of the Newtown community, we will then look to provide a space in town that will serve as a home for those who love the arts, the land, and expression in its many forms.
