Join us this Sunday, September 6, from 2 - 4pm at the Newton Centre Garden for Coloring the Garden, the final event in our Summer in the Garden for Everyone series!

We've turned the sketches created by visitors during July's Sketches in the Garden event into coloring sheets - We invite you to come settle into the garden, color, read stories, and enjoy a relaxing afternoon surrounded by nature and community.

The Summer in the Garden for Everyone event series is hosted by Newtonville Books and Spark Newton on the Newton Centre Green. This free, all-ages programming aims to help everyone explore and enjoy the Newton Centre Green this summer.

The end of August is bittersweet, and today we bid farewell to this year's Haiku Newton plaques.

Haiku Newton, co-directed by Elizabeth Lund and Grey Held is now in its fifth year bringing poetry off the page and into public spaces. The haiku signs had a good run, moving from one location to another across Newton throughout the summer.

We'd like to extend a big thank you to all of this year's wonderful poets, whose haiku brightened up our city all summer. Check back next year for a chance to have your haiku featured!

There’s still time to bring your project to Newton!

Spark Newton’s Fall Micro-Grant Program offers awards of up to $1,500 for artists, cultural organizations, community groups, and others with plans for arts and culture programs taking place in Newton this fall through spring.

If you have a project in the works, this is a great opportunity to help make it happen. Proposals for programs taking place September 2026 through April 2027 are due August 31.

New to Newton, or still finding your way around? Come say hello!

Spark Newton will be at the City of Newton's Welcome to Newton open house this Wednesday, August 19th. The event is designed to help newer residents meet neighbors, learn about local resources, and discover some of the organizations and opportunities that make Newton such a vibrant community.

We'll be there to tell you a little more about Spark Newton, our free arts and culture programs, and ways to get involved in Newton's creative community. Stop by our table and say hello - we'd love to meet you!

Last chance to weigh in! The Newton Cultural Council's Community Survey closes tomorrow, August 15th.

This is an opportunity for Newton residents to share what kinds of arts and cultural experiences matter most to you.

You can help shape Newton’s arts and culture landscape — Spark Newton is now accepting proposals for free and low-cost arts and culture experiences taking place between September 1, 2026, and April 30, 2027.

We’re looking for projects that invite people in, celebrate creativity, and add to the vibrant mix of arts and culture happening throughout our city.

Think our garden can be a winner?

Spark Newton's Beautification Committee has entered the Newton Centre Garden in this year's All-America Selections Landscape Design Challenge! This year's theme is The Goodness of Gardening, and our garden is bursting with AAS award-winning flowers, creative design, and the care of our dedicated volunteer gardeners.

The garden will be judged at the end of the season, with winners announced in October. In the meantime, come see it for yourself at our final Summer in the Garden for Everyone event on Sunday, September 6 at 2 p.m. Join us in the Newton Centre Garden for coloring, stories, and a chance to celebrate the volunteers who keep this special space blooming all season long.

Join us for the final Performance in the Park concert of the season!

This Sunday at 6:00PM, head to the Newton Centre Bowl for an evening of lively old-time string music with The Ruth and Ben String Band. Led by guitarist Ruth Rappaport and her son, fiddler Ben Wetherbee, this energetic ensemble brings together spirited fiddle tunes, beautiful harmony singing, and an infectious energy that's sure to get toes tapping.

Grab some dinner from one of Newton Centre's wonderful local restaurants, set up a blanket or lawn chair, and settle in for a great night of FREE live music with friends, family, and neighbors.
