Watch a mural come to life!

This weekend, Newton muralist Gregg Bernstein will spend two days in Newton Centre creating an 8-by-12-foot temporary mural inspired by the abundant wildlife of the Charles River watershed. On Saturday, October 10 and Monday, October 12, Gregg will paint animals, plants, and other organisms in their natural habitats.

Gregg has spent more than three decades creating vibrant public murals throughout Boston and beyond, often incorporating local history, landmarks, and the people who make each community unique. This time, he’ll be turning his attention to the natural world around us and inviting the public into a conversation about the role of public art in our shared spaces.

Additionally, on Saturday, the F.A. Day Middle School Jazz Band will join Gregg at the Plaza for a special performance from 1–1:45pm!

From Veracruz to Newton, music has a way of bringing people together.

This Saturday, Newton Community Farm’s Fall Family Fun Day will feature a special performance of Son Jarocho, a traditional musical expression from Veracruz, Mexico.

Led by Newton-based Mexican artist Zaira Meneses and joined by musicians from the Greater Boston area, the performance will bring together music, singing, poetry, improvisation, and zapateado, a style of rhythmic footwork.

Spark Newton is proud to support this performance through our Community Micro-Grant Program. We love opportunities to help bring a wider range of artistic and cultural traditions to Newton and to create spaces where residents can see their cultures celebrated close to home.

You’re invited! The new Crystal Lake Murals are officially part of the landscape at the Crystal Lake Bathhouse, and we’re excited to celebrate with a ribbon cutting this Wednesday!

Spark Newton commissioned these whimsical and joyful murals by muralist Ruby Rose and gifted them to the City of Newton as a new piece of public art for the Crystal Lake Bathhouse. Inspired by the beauty and life of Crystal Lake, the murals bring a little more color, creativity, and joy to one of Newton’s beloved public spaces.

Join the City of Newton’s Department of Arts & Culture on October 7th at 9:30AM to celebrate the new murals and the artist who brought them to life. Light refreshments will be served!

THIS WEEKEND! 🎶🍂

Seriously, folks, there is SO much happening at Spark Newton’s FREE Community Concert this Sunday. Live music, art activities, free food samples, more food and drinks for sale, and plenty of fun for the whole family.

Newton’s arts-supporting Mayor, Marc Laredo, will kick things off with opening remarks before Boston singer, songwriter, and keyboardist Malayna Knox takes the stage. Bring a friend, grab a neighbor, and come hang out with us! It’s free, it’s all-ages, and it’s going to be a good time.

There will be plenty of food and drink options to Spark Newton’s FREE Community Concert THIS Sunday in the Newton Trio Courtyard - so come grab a bite, enjoy a drink, and settle in for an afternoon of live music and creativity!

🍦 MIDA will be offering free arancini samples, plus pizza and gelato for purchase.

🥢 FUJI at Newton will be offering free sushi samples, and selling Thai tea and milk tea (with or without boba!).

Both MIDA and FUJI will also be offering their full dining menus on their patios in the courtyard.

🍺 The B**r Mobile will be on site selling b**r and w**e.

We’re hiring! Spark Newton is looking for a part-time Executive Assistant to join our team and support the day-to-day work of our growing arts and culture organization.

This is a varied role working closely with the Executive Director across communications, community outreach, donor relations, events, programs, and administrative projects. We’re looking for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, dependable, and excited about arts, culture, and community programming.
