Thanks to everyone who came out to the Fall Festival at the Jasper County Museum this past Saturday and stopped by to support Jasper County CERT!

Because of the generosity of our visitors, we were able to raise funds that will go directly toward supporting our mission, training, equipment, and the work our volunteers do throughout Jasper County. Every dollar really does make a difference and helps us stay ready to support our communities when we are needed.

We also want to thank the Jasper County Museum for putting on another great community event and for giving us the opportunity to be part of it.

If you were not able to make it Saturday but would still like to support Jasper County CERT, you can donate right here on Facebook. Every contribution, big or small, helps us continue building the program and serving Jasper County.

We also want to thank our donors who help make our fundraiser successful, Hy-Vee Walmart Fareway Stores

Thank you again to everyone who stopped by, donated, asked questions, and supported our team. We appreciate it!

This Saturday, come out to the Jasper County Museum Fall Festival, enjoy a great day with the family, and help Jasper County CERT build a program that will be there for families when they need it most.

Jasper County CERT will serve walking tacos and drinks from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, with proceeds supporting our Family Liaison Program.

When a family suffers a house fire or another devastating event, the emergency doesn't end when the fire trucks leave. They may suddenly be dealing with the loss of their home and belongings, wondering where they are going to stay, what they are going to wear, how they are going to replace medications, or simply what they are supposed to do next.

Our goal with the Family Liaison Program is to have trained CERT volunteers available to help families navigate those first difficult hours, connect them with available resources, and make sure they aren't left trying to figure everything out on their own.

You can help us build that program simply by coming hungry!

Stop by Saturday, grab a walking taco and a drink, tour the museum, check out the steam engine, and enjoy the Fall Festival with your family.

Every walking taco helps us prepare to be there for someone else on what may be one of the darkest days of their life.

Help us help them.

A huge THANK YOU to the Vermeer Charitable Foundation!

Jasper County CERT was recently awarded a $2,000 grant from the Vermeer Charitable Foundation to support our Impact the Community Preparedness and Response Training Initiative.

Our CERT volunteers put in countless hours throughout the year supporting public safety, assisting during emergencies and community events, providing CPR and preparedness education, and building the skills and equipment needed to respond when our communities need help.

Funding like this allows us to continue expanding those capabilities and providing training not only here in Jasper County, but wherever there is a need we can help fill.

CERT is made up of volunteers who give their time because they want to make a difference. Having organizations like Vermeer recognize and invest in that work makes a tremendous difference in what we can accomplish.

Thank you to the Vermeer Charitable Foundation for supporting our volunteers, our communities, and the continued growth of Jasper County CERT!

We appreciate the partnership and look forward to putting these funds to work.

CERT MEMBER OF THE MONTH: LANCE HAWLEY

This month, we’re proud to recognize Lance Hawley as our Jasper County CERT Member of the Month!

Lance serves as a Team Leader with Jasper County CERT and joined the team because he wanted to continue building his own emergency preparedness skills, not only for himself, but for his family and community.

“I joined CERT to keep up on being prepared for emergencies for my family and to be able to help first responders so they can attend to matters that civilians are not qualified to do.”

That really gets to the heart of what CERT is about. CERT members aren’t there to replace firefighters, law enforcement, EMS, or emergency management. They’re trained volunteers who can step in and handle support functions, allowing first responders to focus their attention and resources where they are needed most.

For Lance, one of the best parts of CERT has been the people.

“My favorite part is meeting new people who have the same interest that I have for this community. The longer that I am part of this team, the more they are family to me.”

Of all the skills he has gained through CERT, Lance says he is most proud of developing the ability and confidence to lead during an emergency. Training, preparation, and working together as a team help CERT members become more comfortable stepping up when something goes wrong.

Lance also has a simple preparedness recommendation for everyone in Jasper County: download the Jasper Ready app.

The app provides access to emergency alerts, preparedness information, road conditions, weather information, storm damage reporting, and other local resources. You can even use it to help develop your own emergency plan.

And one fun fact about Lance?

His family’s history of military service stretches all the way back to America’s earliest conflicts.

Lance brings a willingness to serve, learn, lead, and help others to Jasper County CERT, and we’re glad to have him as part of the team.

Thank you, Lance, for your commitment to CERT and to Jasper County!

Tonight wasn't about sirens, emergencies, or disaster response. It was about something just as important: building relationships.

Members of the Mahaska County CERT and Jasper County CERT teams came together for an evening of dinner, fellowship, and great conversation. We shared experiences, exchanged ideas, and discussed what it means to serve our communities. Strong teams aren't built only through training. They're built through trust, friendships, and a shared commitment to helping others when it matters most.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to join us tonight. We look forward to continuing to learn from one another and strengthening the partnership between our two teams.

Together, we're building stronger volunteers, stronger partnerships, and stronger communities.

Tonight, members of the Jasper County CERT team participated in pipeline emergency response training at DMACC. This training provided an opportunity to learn about pipeline operations, potential hazards, emergency response procedures, and how CERT volunteers can safely support professional responders during pipeline-related incidents.

Continuing education is an important part of being prepared. By taking advantage of training opportunities like this, our volunteers are building the knowledge and skills needed to assist our communities when emergencies occur.

A big thank you to the instructors for sharing their expertise and to our CERT members who continue to dedicate their time to becoming better prepared to serve Jasper County.

Interested in making a difference in your community? We'd love to have you join the Jasper County CERT team. Stay tuned for information on upcoming training opportunities.

🚨 Jasper County CERT Member Spotlight-July 🚨

This month, we'd like to recognize Chuck Wagoner for his continued service and commitment to preparedness in Jasper County. Chuck is a U.S. military veteran, a longtime supporter of emergency preparedness, and an active member of Jasper County CERT.

Why did Chuck join CERT?

"I was a CERT team member several years ago and am glad to see the program active again here in Jasper County. It is a great volunteer organization and a good way to support our local emergency management efforts."

What is your favorite part of CERT?

"The camaraderie with other team members when we get together, and knowing that as a volunteer group we can offer help and support when it is needed."

What skill or knowledge are you most proud of gaining?

"Seeing how the different emergency agencies work together during an incident and learning how CERT prepares volunteers for hazards that may occur in our county. CERT teaches basic disaster response skills that allow emergency personnel to focus on more complex tasks during emergencies."

Chuck's preparedness tip:

"Always be aware of your surroundings, pay attention to unusual activity, and keep an eye on the weather. Being aware of what is happening around you is one of the simplest ways to stay prepared."

Fun Fact About Chuck

Chuck serves as the Emergency Coordinator for Jasper County in our local amateur radio club and enjoys talking with fellow amateur radio operators around the world. His call sign is KØWAG.

Thank you, Chuck, for your military service, your dedication to preparedness, and your continued commitment to helping make Jasper County a safer and more resilient community.
