We are so excited to be playing softball again this spring!

Because the weather changes so quickly, any decisions to not play a game are made by team coaches and will be emailed to the teams involved. Otherwise all games are on.

Normally on Opening Day, we all gather on a big field and celebrate our softball players, from the Kindergarteners up through the graduating 7th graders. But, these are not normal times. So sadly, there can be no Opening Day parade and ceremony. Still, all of us involved with Newton Girls Softball want to electronically wish you a very fun first day of games.

On Opening Day, we also take a few moments to acknowledge and thank our volunteer army: coaches, safety parents, and administrators who keep our league strong and players happy. There are too many of you to name individually here, but please know how much we appreciate your time and commitment! Parents and spectators, please thank your team volunteers today as well!

On Opening Day, we also normally thank our sponsors that help keep the league afloat. We will take a moment to acknowledge them here: Boston Bodyworker, Lasell Village, Los Amigos, Sunrise Senior Living, Village Bank, Bob and DeEtta Kay Reynolds, Advance Auto Center, Future Shapes, Plymouth Rock Assurance, All That Jazz, Beaver Summer Camp, Monument Mortgage, and Sarah Cole Interiors.

As for Covid protocols, coaches and safety parents have all been informed of the state rules. To keep things brief and simple: Don't forget your masks and please adhere to social distancing guidelines.

And with that... Play Ball!

Rec League registration numbers are growing but there's still room!

Newton Girls Softball seeks girls of all experience levels to learn about and play softball together while forging friendships and fostering fun. The Rec program welcomes Newton girls in grades K-7. For information and to register visit www.newtongirlssoftball.org.

Sign up with a friend by midnight on February 28th to take advantage of your “pair me with” rights. Each player is allowed to request one person (and only one) to be paired with on the same team. It may be a friend, sister, or car-pool buddy.

To be fulfilled, both players must list each other on their registration forms, and both forms must be received by March 1st. See Policies and Guidelines for additional details.

NGSoftball Rec League is excited to offer a Fall Clinic for girls pre-K to 7th grade on Four Rec Softball Sundays this Fall: 9/20, 9/27, 10/4, and 10/18, all dates starting at 4:00 pm.

The clinic should be enjoyable for girls of all abilities, including those who have never played softball or have little experience. If your daughter has some friends who may want to give it a try, encourage them to register with you.

There will be four divisions at four locations:

o Pre-K and Kindergarten, ~1 hour led by Erin Hanley

o 1st and 2nd graders, ~1 hour led by James Alandydy

o 3rd and 4th graders, ~75 minutes led by Jason Margolis

o 5th through 7th graders, up to 2 hours led by Drew Freedman and George Howard

Girls will rotate through stations to work on throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, (and for the younger girls, learning how the game is played). After stations, teams will be made and the girls will scrimmage.

Registration is now open at www.newtongirlssoftball.org and closes on September 2nd. There is no cost, but all participants must register (same as normal rec season registration). After registering you will hear back with specifics by September 11th.
