In 2011, CCSC had the privilege to sing at the American Cemetary in Normandy, France. We were overwhelmed by the beauty and peaceful aura of the place that signified war, death, and hope. As we walked through the rows upon rows of white crosses, a French gentleman came up to us and asked if we were Americans. When we responded yes, he thanked us and the United States for saving his country and Europe from the N**i regime. How proud we were to be there on that day and to sing to the soldiers who gave the ultimate sacrifice so that we could have the freedom to visit. Thank you, John McCrae, for these moving lyrics none of us will forget. 🎶 In Flanders fields the poppies blow between the crosses, row on row, that mark our place; and in the sky the larks, still bravely singing, fly scarce heard amid the guns below. We are the Dead. Short days ago we lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow, loved, and were loved, and now we lie in Flanders Fields. Take up our quarrel with the foe: to you from failing hands we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high. If ye break faith with us to die we shall not sleep, the poppies grow in Flanders fields. 🎶
