A great read from USA TODAY highlighting what hospice can - and should - make possible: more time at home, surrounded by the people and things that matter most.

We’re especially glad to see our friends at Hospice Buffalo featured in this important conversation. It’s also a powerful reminder of the unique role nonprofit hospices play in our communities.

At Good Shepherd Community Care, we believe hospice is about putting people first - honoring individual wishes, supporting families, and helping people live as fully and comfortably as possible through the end of life.

That’s the heart of the nonprofit hospice movement and the mission behind the National Partnership for Healthcare and Hospice Innovation (NPHI): People Over Profits. Nonprofit hospices are deeply rooted in their communities and focused on providing compassionate, person-centered care - not maximizing profit.

Worth a read - and an important conversation about the kind of hospice care we want for everyone.

For many who go home in hospice care to die, death is neither immediate nor quick. Some, like President Jimmy Carter, live quality years in home care

What an incredible day on the course! ⛳️

Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 9th Annual Camp Erin Boston Golf Tournament. Because of your generosity, we raised more than $16,000 to support children, teens, and families grieving the loss of an important person in their lives.

From our golfers and sponsors to our volunteers and supporters, your commitment helps ensure that no child has to navigate grief alone. Thank you for making this year's tournament such a success!

Today, we honor Juneteenth—a celebration of freedom and a reminder that the work of advancing equity continues.

At Good Shepherd Community Care, we believe that addressing disparities in healthcare requires listening, learning, and action. Over the past year, we have sought feedback from Black patients' families to better understand their experiences and identify opportunities to improve care. When one family member shared concerns about wound care for patients with melanated skin, we responded by providing organization-wide education and bringing in expert training for our nursing staff.

We have also strengthened partnerships with community and faith-based organizations, including the Louis D. Brown Peace Institute, Alter Dementia, We Are Better Together, and local faith communities, to expand access to hospice, palliative, dementia, bereavement, and grief support services. Through initiatives such as our Community Mix & Mingle and participation in Everyday Boston's Storytelling to Build Medical Trust program, we have worked to deepen relationships, build trust, and learn directly from the communities we serve.

These efforts reflect the ongoing work of our Racial Equity Committee and our commitment to turning feedback into meaningful action. While there is more work to do, we remain dedicated to ensuring that every individual and family receives care that is compassionate, respectful, and responsive to their needs.

As we commemorate Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to being a trusted partner in our community and to advancing equitable care for all.
