This past Saturday, friends, family, and colleagues gathered to celebrate the retirement of President & CEO Timothy Boon. The evening was filled with reminiscing, big laughs, heartfelt stories, and plenty of sweet moments.

We heard from Good Shepherd staff, both current and former, who shared special memories of Tim and reflected on what he has meant to them as a leader, mentor, and colleague. There were certainly some tears and bittersweet goodbyes, but this is not the end of Tim’s relationship with Good Shepherd.

Although Tim has officially entered retirement, he will continue to serve as a Senior Advisor, helping support a smooth transition into this next chapter.

We are incredibly grateful to Tim for 19 years of dedicated service, compassionate leadership, and the lasting legacy he leaves at Good Shepherd. His impact can be seen in the people he has supported, the patients and families we have served, and the mission he has helped carry forward.

Day 8 of 19 Days of Giving

Since 2015, the Annual Institute Dinner has been a cornerstone of the Good Shepherd Institute, our organization’s education, research, and professional development branch.

Each year, the Dinner brings together members of our community to explore important topics related to serious illness, caregiving, grief, and end-of-life care. We feature a keynote speaker whose work sparks meaningful conversations around understanding, equity, quality, and compassionate care. At its heart, the Dinner is a reminder of the power of community and how connection can give us strength, perspective, and the capacity to heal.

And, of course, Tim has never missed an opportunity to be part of this special evening. Over the years, he’s shown up to listen, learn, connect, and celebrate the important work of the Good Shepherd Institute.

Day 7 of 19 Days of Giving

🕯️ Every fall, the The Parmenter Foundation hosts its annual Lights of Remembrance ceremony at the Miriam Boyd Parlin Hospice Residence.

This special memorial event brings together families, both new and longtime members of our community, to honor and remember the loved ones they’ve lost. It’s a beautiful evening of reflection, connection, and remembrance.

Here’s a look back at the 2023 ceremony, where, as always, Tim never missed an opportunity to show up and be part of a Good Shepherd event.

A throwback to National Doctors’ Day, Tim celebrating with a few of our incredible in-house hospice physicians!

Having our own hospice physicians as part of the Good Shepherd team is an important part of providing comprehensive, person-centered care. They work closely with our interdisciplinary team to consult on care plans, help manage complex symptoms, and ensure each patient’s care is tailored to their individual needs and wishes.

We’re grateful for the expertise, compassion, and collaboration our physicians bring to our patients, families, and entire care team every day.

Every fall, Good Shepherd hosts a Staff Picnic to celebrate our hardworking and dedicated team. Staff are invited to bring their families along, but in 2022, Tim decided to bring a very special guest: his mom’s dog, Peanut. 🐶

What Tim expected to be a fun afternoon with Peanut quickly turned into several hours of holding a very small, very nervous, very shaky dog.

Peanut may not have been a fan of the festivities, but we certainly were! The afternoon gave us these absolutely adorable photos of Tim and his four-legged companion.

Sometimes the best memories (and the best photos) are the ones you don’t plan for.

Did you know Tim has a secret life as an author?

Not many people know this, but back in 2017, Tim wrote a book about personal advance directives, with a very unexpected twist: it was written in the style of Dr. Seuss!

Because apparently being CEO wasn’t enough… Tim also had to become a rhyming author.

Just one more reason why there’s truly no one quite like Tim Boon! 💙

Day 3 of 19 Days of Giving

Tim may not consider himself an artist, but that didn’t stop him from picking up a paintbrush!

Tim has always made an effort to show up and support Good Shepherd events - and our 2024 Holiday Paint & Sip was no exception. Although he was a little hesitant to attend (he claims he’s “not an artist!”), Tim joined in, enjoyed the snacks and refreshments, and, most importantly, had a blast!

The evening featured a guided winter painting, with proceeds benefiting our Annual Pedi Pal Toy Drive.

One more example of Tim showing up, joining in, and supporting the Good Shepherd community in his own way.

We’re especially glad to see our friends at Hospice Buffalo featured in this important conversation. It’s also a powerful reminder of the unique role nonprofit hospices play in our communities.

At Good Shepherd Community Care, we believe hospice is about putting people first - honoring individual wishes, supporting families, and helping people live as fully and comfortably as possible through the end of life.
