UPDATE:

I have spoken directly with the Sussex Main Library recently in the hope of reinstating our chess club. Unfortunately, due to numerous boundaries that are currently in place, it seems as though we will not be able to reinstate it yet.

1. One of the main hurdles is that the library is not accepting room reservations at this point in time. Since we are unable to book our room, we have no idea if someone else will be using it when we arrive. In other words, if I schedule a time for us to meet, it's quite possible there will already be people using the room. There is also a 25 person limit in that room.

2. We are still required to social distance inside the library which is nearly impossible to do while playing chess and touching the pieces.

3. The library will allow us to play outside, but we would need to provide tables and chairs, and that is more than I can handle at this moment in time. Plus we would be at the mercy of the weather.

Hopefully as time goes on and things continue to return to normal, we will be able to reinstate the chess club. In the meantime, if anyone is looking for personal chess lessons for yourself or a child, please feel free to send me a personal message for more information.

We can't wait to be able to reopen the chess club, and we look forward to seeing all of you again!

UPDATE: We are currently looking into the possibility of reinstating the Sussex County Chess Club but in a virtual setting (Google Meet or Zoom). This wouldn’t take place until the end of June. If you’re interested, please comment on this message and let us know. Also please feel free to forward this to anyone who might be interested in joining. Thank you!

A brief article highlighting the history of the early medieval type of Chess which the Norsemen played with during the Viking Age.

Looking for something to do while you’re self-quarantined? Now’s the perfect time to brush up on your chess skills! I highly recommend Chess.com. They have an app that’s easy to use and will help kick your chess skills up a notch or two. You can also go to their website if you prefer to use a PC.

If you’re the reading type, my personal favorite is “Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess.” It’s available via Amazon for less than $10, and is a great resource.

Stay safe and healthy!
