Boston To DC Ride

Boston To DC Ride We will be riding our bicycles from Boston To Washington D.C., over the course of 5 days.

The goal is to bring awareness to the dangers, sacrifice and challenges facing LEO's as well as the emotional, physical and financial scars incurred from serving.

It all started with losing this guy in April 2014. And the Plymouth (and now)/Boston to DC ride was born.

This year, the logistical and financial burden was high. Rising costs of everything prompted the plank owners of the Boston to DC ride to make the difficult decision to push the ride back to 2024.

So, in honor of our friend Gregg and to keep the spirit of the ride alive... Paul & I rode our bikes from Plymouth to Newport RI on Saturday.

A challenge in itself, the struggle for your girl was R-E-A-L. 🚴 😳

With 2250+ feet of elevation gain 🏔️ and limited "training rides" under my belt, it was no easy task. But we made it and enjoyed some refreshments on the other side!!

One year ago today we left Newton Police Headquarters and began our bike ride to Washington D.C. for National Police Week.

Our goal was to raise money for, and bring awareness to, Officers impacted by critical incidents.

Needless to say, thanks to the generosity and support of many people, we were successful. We wanted to help as many impacted Police Officers as possible and thanks to all of those who supported us we did.

We didn’t pay off mortgages or deliver lottery size checks, but your generosity made a difference. And when we say “it’s the thought that counts”, these folks were overwhelmed people like you were thinking of them.

When planning the ride for this year, we had great hopes of adding riders and broadening our fundraising. Unfortunately, due to the economic conditions the ride would cost three times more to complete this year compared to last.

For that reason, we are putting it off until next year for the full ride. To keep the ride alive and honor those who stared danger down and came out the other side, a couple of us are riding to Newport, Rhode Island from Plymouth MA today.

We will also be participating and attending the Aquidneck Island National Police Parade tomorrow. Hope to see you there. We will be posting pictures of last years ride all week and are forever grateful for our families and supporters.

The first picture today is of the incredible crew we had last year “plank owners” of the “Boston to DC” ride. Some of the kindness, most compassionate and grittiest crew you could ever put together.

Thank you for your continued support!!

Boston to DC ride.... After Action Debrief 🚴

After a very late night at a local watering hole, one of us flew home and was presented with an award, while the rest of us slept in a bit.

Late breakfast and we played tourist with visits to the World War II memorial, Lincoln Monument and Arlington National Cemetery where we watched the Changing of the Guard.

After a visit to Tent City, we grabbed a drink in the lobby & were off to the District Chop House for our last night together in D.C., followed by a visit to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

What an amazing experience!! We rode hard, worked as a team and had alot of laughs.

But we never forgot WHY we were there, or our cause. We rode 400 miles not only to honor those who lost their lives, but to honor those who survive.

Survive the job. Critical incidents. Shootings, stabbings, child abuse, fatal accident scenes.

We are grateful for your support, thankful for your kind words and humbled by the experiences we shared.

Boston to D.C. ride..... Day 7 🚴

Left Annapolis after waiting out the rain for our 38 mile ride to D.C.

A "quick" ride into our Nation's Capital where we toured the monuments on our bikes before heading over to the National Law Enforcement Memorial.

Shower, dinner and off to the Candlelight Vigil to honor those we've lost in the line of duty.

Thank you for following along. Thank you for your support, texts, comments & love ❤️

Boston to D.C...... Day 6 🚴

We left Delaware and moved onto Annapolis Maryland. A shorter day than the 2 previous (55 miles) with lots of flatlands that kept our cruising pace at 17mph average.

Lots of beautiful scenery, a few crazy hills thrown in & a quick stop for lunch.

Alison Tocher- Reynolds (from Plymouth) niece saw us on Main St, beeped, waved & took some fabulous pictures of us just coming into Annapolis

We had to detour with a broken bike, hit the hot tub once we got to the hotel & then grabbed dinner at a gorgeous spot on the water.

D.C. here we come 🙌

Boston to DC..... Day 5. 🚴

After a slow start to the day due to technology & mechanical glitches, off we went for our 80 mile ride to Dover Delaware.

A few miles in, crossing over some train tracks got the best of us and we had a slight mishap. Thankfully everyone was okay and we continued on.

We rode through some tough neighborhoods, maneuvered through the city streets of Philly, saw Martin Luther King Jr. first parish & then had not one, not two but 3 flat tires! 🤨

After stopping for a quick lunch in
Wilmington Delaware, we rode through some beautiful farm land & corn fields, saw some gorgeous scenery and finally arrived in Dover.

We had an amazing dinner, a bunch of laughs, had a kick ass waiter named Kenny who made the BEST cocktails and then hit the casinos so we could give the house some of our money 💰 🤣

Today... we are off to Annapolis Maryland.

Boston to D.C. ride..... Day 4 🚴

Up & on the road early to catch a ferry from Manhattan to Atlantic Highlands NJ.

After a quick 2 mile ride through the crazy Manhattan traffic, we caught the ferry & started our 83 mile trek through some beautiful scenic routes, farmland and horse farms.

A few tough hills to navigate, a stretch of unpaved, less than ideal conditions and some amazing flats.

38 miles in we found a great little lunch place, recharged, topped off our water and off we went. Arrived in Philly after crossing the Delaware River Bridge & took some epic pictures (more to come).

83 miles ✅

Today.... we are off to Delaware. Another long day. 80 miles. 🚴

Boston to D.C. ride.... Day 3. 🚴

From Long Beach, New York by way of Rockaway Beach....and holy crap it was windy 🌬.....as in blow you over kinda windy.... we traveled through the Flatlands of Brooklyn where we just H-A-D to listen to "Streets of New York" 🎵 before we pedaled over the Brooklyn Bridge...An "easy" 30 miles (not)!!

We had a few mishaps, were all hangry when we arrived and sadly, we weren't able to ride over the top trellis to take some pictures of Lady Liberty or Ellis Island 😭😭, but we we got to make a quick stop to see Kate's dad, and then rode into Ground Zero. 🙏

Paul & I did a quick laundry trip, enjoyed some local fare and a few cocktails before heading out to grab dinner with the crew.

Tomorrow.... off to Philly for an 85 mile trek. Pray for us.

Great ride today, Long Beach boardwalk to Rockaway boardwalk. As the song goes, we took the shore parkway to the Flatlands of Brooklyn. Over the Brooklyn Bridge... No more bikes in the upper trellis 👎. Kate got to say hi to her father who’s a ships captain of the Governor's Island Ferry. Then we said a quick prayer at Ground Zero before heading off to Times Square.

Boston to D.C..... Day 2

It is freaking WINDY. And cold 🥶. Since our original ferry was canceled & moved up an hour and a half....ANNNNNND.....we experienced more mechanical issues with the bikes, we needed to make up some time & started in Middleton RI.

45 miles of KILLER hills through Rhode Island & into Connecticut. As in.....holy hell, I'm not sure I can get up these hills kinda hills.

While there were some decent downhills....the elevation gain was 🤯🤯🤯 (over 2600 feet)

Representing our hometown & our favorite bike shop....Serious Cycles came in clutch with our bike shirts.

Enjoying some amazing food & libations at a local restaurant called Baldoria. If you're ever on Long Beach.... check it out & ask for Rob. He's badass!

Tomorrow..... Manhatten!! NYC here we come!!

Sorry for the late post! Tough day, gusts to 40mph, cancelled ferry, small mechanical bike issue. But we wouldn't be deterred. Finally made it to Long Beach. We had an over 2700 feet of elevation gain, some pretty serious hills. Which thankfully we had our Serious Cyles riding shirts to keep us motivated. Thank you Seth, Dennis and Nate. Tomorrow we are off to Ground Zero in Manhattan. Short mileage but we need the recovery. Zoom in on the sunset and that's the New York skyline. Shout out to NYPD Pipes and Drums, love you guys.

🚴 Boston to D.C. ride ... Day 1. 🚴

We left Newton PD in style with an es**rt from the Newton MA Police Department which made navigating the intersections that much easier.

5 miles in, we had a broken derailleur and had to hit a bike shop back in Newton. While that bike was being fixed, the rest of us continued in with a sweeeeeet tailwind 💨 that allowed us to crush our time to Providence... as in 15-16 mph average speed!! 🤯🤯

It was windy AF, but we crushed Day 1. After we checked in, we hit the hot tub with a few cocktails, off to dinner & then hit the rack early.

Tomorrow we are off to Long Beach New York in what is predicted to be 22-25 mph winds. Our original ferry was canceled, so we are improvising, overcoming & adapting.
