Flanner's Beach Campout 10/2 - 10/4 🏖️🚴🌧️

This campout was unique in many ways! We got to bring our bikes and use them as much as we desired as we rode on some fun trails near camp! 🚵

We survived the torrential 8+ hour downpour and learned how to keep a fire going and to make s'mores in the rain! 🍫

Now to unpack and dry out until our troop meeting tomorrow night! 🌬️

Troop Meeting Minutes 9/21

🔒🗝️ We learned one of the coolest parts of scouting: Morse Code! We learned this through a fun activity where the scouts had to send and receive messages, so they could earn candy!

📣‼️ As for announcements (ANNOUNCEMENTS!?), you can check the latest post from the PLC.

Today we had an orienteering and beach fun day at Fort Macon since the weather had other plans for our Shackleford Campout. We knocked our requirements, had fun in the surf, and then enjoyed pizza together! 🌊🇺🇸🗺️🧭🍕

Fall 2026 Court of Honor - 9/14 🇺🇸🦅⚜️🎖️

- We awarded over 40 different merit badges from summer camp and other activities. We also awarded a Scout Rank and Life Rank. We also had scouts earn their Firem'n Chit 🔥

- Ms. Emily was also celebrated for completing Wood Badge and had her beading ceremony from Council. We dressed all "fancy pants" as our theme to celebrate! 🥳

We have an awesome troop! Congratulations everyone!🏆👏

Troop 8986 Recent Acts of Service: 🗽

8/22- New Bern Resolves 🦅🇺🇸: We took part in 252nd anniversary observance of the 1st NC Provincial Congress for independence with Pack 130. A cool thing to do as part of the America 250 Service Award. Jacob even rendered honors on behalf of the Troop.

9/5- Day of Service VFW Post 8986 👷💪: We assisted our Chartering Organization with moving things out of their shed while they finalized a renovation. We also did a flag ceremony. Thank you for all that you do to support us!

9/12- Adaptive Surf Community Service Project 🌊🏄: Helped briefly in any way we could and enjoyed some time by the water!

Troop 8986 Meeting Minutes 9/7/2026

🥾🧭 We had a wonderful time at the park even though it's Labor Day! We worked on a skill that would be very useful for us in future campouts: Pioneering. We used our skills to build a miniature version of a Monkey Bridge!

🏕️🏖️ Also, on 9/19-9/20, we will be embarking on a journey to Shackleford Island, where we will be spending the night, while having the best time!
