These waters are their home too. 🌊🐋

Fewer than 380 North Atlantic right whales remain. Each year, they migrate roughly 1,300 miles, and every journey can be a fight for survival.

Entanglement in fishing gear and vessel strikes are two of their greatest threats. Nearly 86% have been entangled at least once.

Snow Cone survived a severe entanglement, migrated more than 1,000 miles while pregnant, and gave birth to a calf. Her story is a powerful reminder of their resilience, and how little room for loss remains. Snow Cone and her calf haven’t been spotted since 2022.

Hungry sailors and attendees = an opportunity to make a difference! 😋

🥕 Buy local: Whenever possible, serve food sourced within 100 miles and support local farmers and fishers.

🐟 Choose sustainable seafood: Make sure the seafood you serve is responsibly sourced.

🌱 Consider organic options: Organic farming can help reduce harmful runoff that impacts our waterways.

You don’t have to make the entire menu local, even featuring one locally sourced dish can create a positive impact!

August brought so much good news for our oceans. 💙

From federal lawmakers standing up to the Trump administration to defend endangered species to a gruesome annual seabird hunt being cancelled for the first time in over 400 years, there was all sorts of forward momentum made for our oceans this month.

Check out these great stories. 👇

Small oyster, big impact! 🦪

In "The World is Your Oyster," our KELP (Kids Environmental Lesson Plans) activity developed by Tabor Academy, kids explore oyster biology, aquaculture, and the important role oysters play in keeping estuaries healthy.

They'll learn how oysters filter water, create habitats, and support sustainable communities, and wrap up by making a wish for the ocean, returning an oyster to the estuary—sending their hopes for a healthier sea out into the world. 💙

Happy ! 💙

In honor of these gentle giants, we're celebrating with some of our favorite whale shark facts.

Did you know?

• Whale sharks are all shark, no whale!
• Growing up to 65 feet long (that’s longer than a school bus), these sharks are the largest fish in the ocean.
• The pattern of each whale shark's white dots is unique, like a fingerprint!
• Whale sharks are filter feeders, feeding primarily on plankton, small fish, and other tiny organisms.

The ocean is sending us a warning. 🌡️ 🌊

This July was the hottest July ever recorded for ocean temperatures, according to NOAA. Warmer oceans fuel marine heatwaves, bleach coral reefs, disrupt fisheries, and contribute to stronger storms affecting coastal communities around the world.

We know what's driving this: the continued burning of fossil fuels.

The ocean is one of our greatest allies in the fight against climate change, but it's being pushed to its limits. World leaders must take urgent action to reduce fossil fuel use and accelerate the transition to clean energy.
