At Sailors for the Sea, we created KELP (Kids Environmental Lesson Plans) to help bring ocean conservation to life—with free, hands-on marine science activities designed for classrooms and communities around the world.

🪸 Incredible progress for Antigua’s coral reefs! 🪸

AnuBlue Ocean Restoration, a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the resilience and stewardship of Antigua and Barbuda’s marine ecosystems, planted 5,800+ nursery-grown corals, restoring about 2.3 acres of reef with an 84% survival rate.

Growing 15 reef-building species—including five critically endangered species—AnuBlue is helping build healthier, more resilient reefs for generations to come.

🦦 Sea otters are a conservation success story. 💙

While widely admired for their fluffy appearance, their dense fur once made them a target. By the 1900s, hunting had reduced their population from 300,000 to less than a few thousand.

But thanks to the Endangered Species Act (ESA), sea otters are making a comeback. As a keystone species, when they thrive, so do kelp forests, which support countless other animals.

Sea otters prove that when we protect wildlife, we help whole ecosystems.

In this hands-on KELP (Kids Environmental Lesson Plans) activity, kids build their own Otto the sea otter puppet, create a story, and learn why sea otters are a keystone species who help keep kelp forests healthy by keeping sea urchin populations in check.
